Hi Jen,

My doctor said 4 to 5 months. We just completed 4 months. We went to the doctor

on Monday and I was told that in one month go down to night time only for the

bracing. However, being overly cautious, I am only going down to 16 hours. I

think three months is the norm but every doctor is different. I really don't

think that it hurts to be in the brace an extra month or so 23/7. My son is 5.5

months now and can roll and is trying to crawl...all with the brace on so I

don't think that it is slowing down his development. That being said, I am

comfortable leaving him in the brace 23/7 for a bit more time.

ddb time frame

I noticed most people were told 3 months for full time wear. Does this

usually depend on age, because my 2 1/2 month old was told 4 months? We go back

to our dr. in June, and that is when she will reevaluate his feet. Anyone else

told 4 months?

When asked, Dr. Ponseti always tells parents they do not need to do more

than 3 months. It isn't necessary. But he also tells them to do 18-20 o

16-18 after the first 3 months as well, not nights and naps. Why don't you

go ahead and email Dr. Ponseti and ask this of him yourself? Having that

piece of paper with his words on it makes it so much easier to tell the doc

you're going to follow his recommendations.

So no, it doesn't depend on age. Dr. Ponseti never has a chid wear it full

time for more than 3 months that I've ever heard and lots of parents have

fwd his emails here stating the above. I think you can let him out a bit

now if you want to pay with some footlets :~}

I was told full time wear until he started to pull himself to

standing. Which for us was 5 or 6 months I believe, he started the

DBB at 3 months and was pulling himself up around 8 months. So

that's what we did. But once he was pulling himself up we went to

nap and bedtime only.

, here is a recent post in which the poster quotes an email

from Dr. Ponseti with regard to the bracing protocol.

Hope this helps!

Hi

We did 3 months 23/7 then went straight to night time only which varies from 13

to 16 hours a day (he doesn't sleep that long). But from what I have read the

hours are gradually reduced to night time only, hopefully we don't have any

probs further down the track.
