Guest guest
, I was just thinking of you and Grace today and wondering how the surgery had gone--and how recovery was going. What a great report! It sounds like things are going very smoothly. And what a joy and relief it must be for you to see her feet looking so fabulous!!! 's website is: http://www.mdorthopaedics.org I think what most people have done is to order the brace and pay for it (it comes out to $382, IIRC) and then try to deal with insurance. can provide you with the current insurance codes. He'll send you a foot impression kit (a piece of florist's foam, apparently) and then you send that back to him. I don't know what the time estimate is these days for getting them, but probably over 2 weeks. And Grace is likely to be the largest foot so far. A few people recently have tried to get the P/M FAB ordered through their usual orthotist, but in both cases, they have tried to mark it up (so that it would cost $800). So, is Grace back in the Markells then at night-time? How old is she, remind me? So glad to hear good news! I must say that I went in expecting it to be a huge ordeal and was pleasantly surprised at my amazing daughters ability to cope. She went in smiling, chatting and laughing with the Drs.........and did wake up screaming and unconsolable (probably from fear as she kept saying take it out referring to the IV). This however quickly changed to uncontrollable laughter once a Nemo sticker was applied to the tip of my nose and I began chanting " help....I can't see " . She came out with one full leg cast and one short leg cast. The first night I think she had one dose of morphine and by the next morning she was wanting to crawl. Dr Frick came and said we were ready to go home. Less than 24 hours from surgery we were already home and Grace had taken her last dose of pain medicine by noon that day (regular tylenol) This was against her wishes; I thought it best just in case. Surgery was Friday at about 1:30Pm and I think it was on Sunday she stood a little on the cast........Monday or Tuesday she began walking around.........very funny sight because she had one full leg cast bent at the knee and one short cast and on hard wood floors. By the end of that week she was hauling arse around the house. It sounded like we had a little pirate pegging around. Yesterday we went in for a checkup/cast change. Grace was in the casts almost 4 weeks. Dr Frick was planning on putting her in for 3 more weeks however decided she was healed well and since she was running around so much I am guessing the casts were a no go. Today she is limping short distances. Everything looks awesome though. She finally has no big crease above her heel and the back of her foot touches the floor flat now. I have lots of pictures if anyone is curious or is facing the surgery and would like to know more of what to expect. I also have a question. Dr Frick wants Grace to go into the s. She has been in the Markells all this time. I have a prescription for the shoes, but how do I go about ordering them and how do I file the insurance if I cant get the shoes from anyone around here? Do I just contact the guy that makes them and does he file the insurance? Could someone please enlighten me about this. Thanks in advance! Guest guest
. What wonderful news about Grace!! I bet you are so relieved. Now, the hardest part is over and I bet you are looking forward to a fun, very active summer for Grace! Naomi already gave info for you. You could also call directly at . I would count on close to 3 weeks for the shoes. needs a pair too, but I am trying to hold off a few more weeks because I know he is slammin' busy right now. I agree the best way to go about it is order them directly from and then submit to the insurance company. I know that may not be feasible for some people because of the up front cost. Do you know why Dr. Frick wants her to wear the s instead of the Markells? I'm just curious. Again, congrats on making it over the huge hurdle and I am glad to hear Grace is up and about. Guest guest
, I would love to see pictures! This is something that we may end up broaching in the future. If so, it would be nice to know what to expect. About the s you may want to contact your insurance company first to see if it needs to be pre-approved.. Ours did. Once we got it pre-approved then we sent off for them. Of course we had to pay for them in advance and then get reimbursed. doesn't actually deal with the insurance companies.. -------------- Original message -------------- Graces surgery(posterior release) was April 22nd.
