Hello,

My daughter, , age 31, passed out twice this morning. We took her

to the hospital and she has atrial affribulation (spelling) without

cardiomyopathy. The doctors are very puzzled. She has a clinical

diagnosis of mito. Two months ago I remember a post about someone

having problems with the generic of carnitor. I thought it was

connected with atrial affribulation. If anyone on this list can help

me out please do so.

Her blood pressure is very low and she is chemically sensitive to the

cardiozem that is being tried for the problem. Her heart rate has gone

up to 185 for periods of time. Her C02 and chlorine is low in her

blood. She is on oxygen. They are checking magnesium levels and her

thyroid function.

Thank you for your help. Shelby

Sorry to hear about your daughter. I had problems with Carnitor

(Sigma brand, not a generic), but not heart issues, rather seizures.

But perhaps of interest to you is that I don't have cardiomyopathy,

but have sinus arrhythmias and bradycardia, which lead to blackouts

infrequently. They are not treating the low heart rate at the

moment. I am a few years older than your daughter.

Hope she feels better, I did not have as extensive a work up as she

did, so I can't tell you about the other items you raised.

Take care,

RH

I don't have any info for you, but want you and to know that I am

thinking of both of you.

If her electrolytes are off, she might want to try some Gatorade of

Pediolyte. Did they also check her potassium. All these electrolytes

can affect the heart.

Hugs,

laurie

I just remembered that my heart rate was being weird and I was dizzy

when laying down. After lots of tests, my neuro and I decided that it

was just a flare up of dysautonomia. Luckily it passed in a couple

more weeks.

Mine was dropping throughout the day until it was down in the 40s in

the evening.

Shelby,

I have had periods of atrial fibrillation. I also did not tolerate the meds

I was put on. I was on amirodarine (sic). It made my neuromuscular symptoms

so much worse. They finally did an ablation. My heart problems did not

start there however. They began with bradycardia. They once documented my

heart rate at 18 beats per minute. Since that time ( the last 23 years) I

have been 100% dependent on a pacer. That is why my nick name is bionic

:0). I tried a generic of carnitor when I first began the mito cocktail.

It didn't cause heart problems with me. It did however cause me intense

muscular pain. I was never able to tolerate it. I have also had very low

blood pressure all of my life. I tested positive for neurally mediated

sycope on a tilt table test. The last month I have self medicated with

magnesium and manganese. It has made a big difference in how I feel. The

few times they have tested my blood syrum magnesium levels they were normal.

From some of the reading that I have done, I have found that the level of

magnesium in your blood is not a good indicator of how much is in your

cells. The best way to test for this is to do a test where you take a

baseline 24 hour urine level and then you are given a large dose of

magnesium. You then do another 24 hour urine collection. If the level of

magnesium has not gone up radically then you are deficient in that mineral.

I actually have not had this test done. I am just happy that I am feeling

better. Write back if you have any more questions. I will try to answer

you. It might take a while because I have been able to go back to work and

have not been home much. But I will answer.

Joanne
