So if I give zinc mashed up in yogurt, he gets neither the calcium nor the

zinc??? Am I the only person who didn't know this? So this goes for

Carnaware....I'm so tired of being stupid. Aggie

Calcium and zinc oppose each other - don't give at the same time,

you'll get no nutritional value from it.

You are not stupid. Seriously...ask a dr about vitamins and minerals and

aside from and Dr. Agin you'll probably hear silence for the

answer or, " Oh, they don't need that. "

I did ask my doctor at the 3 yr checkup about Omega 3s and Vit E and some other

supplements. He pulled out his blackberry and sat down and researched it right

there. Said it wouldn't hurt and let him know how he does. The thing is I had

no idea not to give the zinc with calcium but I still don't know if that

includes food containing calcium. I used to put everything in yogurt because he

ate it. Aggie

I have concerns about my daughter and iron. Your other post likely

explains why I took prescription vitamin C as a kid as I never ate meat

and was always anemic (still am and I eat meat). I had to take an iron

supplement while pregnant and it messed me up. I have read a little

about iron and too much can mess up other metals. This is why I keep

trying with diet. I get that I won't always have control over their diet

and it is not like I am getting it right now and I do get that we are

all malabsorbing but I just want to do what I can while I can and

sidestep further digestive issues.

Before you supplement with iron get a blood test since you can give

too much iron. It's an easy finger prick, or if there are concerns a

simple blood draw. My family has perpetually low iron and all my

children have been anemic at 9 mo of age. The boys I gave drops to

for about a year and then on and off they have been borderline low so

they regularly get a chewable vitamin with iron. With the baby she

was borderline at 9 mo so I made sure she had iron rich foods and

since she's a bigger eater than the boys were (but oddly she's skinny

and they were heavy!) she is getting more iron. The boys nursed a

lot more and ate a lot less table foods before age 18mo.
