I don't know whether this means anything but I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. I

am gransmother to the child, Cole, with the developmental delays....which is

why I am on the board. As far as I know none of my children have it...I have 4

grown children and none had any developmental delays or speech problems. Cole

is my only grandchild. Cole's mother, my daughter, has been tested for thyroid

issues but results were normal. The only other possible connection is that my

sister's son had celiac and her daughter, an adult, has some kind of

thyroiditis...don't know if it is Hashimotos. None of her children or

grandchildren had any developmental, speech or learning problems. I asked to

have Cole checked for celiac because of the family issue with it and the fact

that he had gut issues for about 6 months after a bout with rotavirus. It got

better when we put him on a probiotic...and other supplements. The doctor

didn't want to test for celiac. His growth is good even though his diet is

lacking in meat and veggies. My sister's son had growth issues between 2 and 4

before it was diagnosed and is now an adult. That is our family history...:o) I

don't know whether any of this means anything. Aggie

[ ] Apraxia related to Hashimoto's Thyroiditis?

There was a recent study that confirmed findings that Hashimotos could

be the result of Celiac, I am wondering if anyone else thinks there

may be a link to undiagnosed Celiac and our kids being predisposed to

this autoimmune condition in the womb?

Anyone have Hashimoto's or celiac and rhogham shot?

Wonder if leaky gut is present if this is some sort of blood disorder

that may start in womb?

I have Hashimoto's, and recently started my son on Gluten Free

(Previously milk free, diet restricted, omega's, vitamin E, Carnitor,

Immune Globulin shots, and Prevacid)and have seen good results

already, I will be starting GF diet after I pull some blood work soon.

Anyone willing to comment if they had rhogham shot or

celiac/hashimoto's?????

I had two Rhogham shots while I was pregnant and one shortly after my

son was born (while I was still breastfeeding him.) I don't have

Celiac or Hashimoto's, to my knowledge, but I've also never been

tested for them.

--Thank you, I didn't present with Hashimoto's till adult years, so

I'm wondering if Celiac was there all along and I didn't question it

because initially the Synthroid seemed to help. Just trying to

figure out if it is untreated how it may effectour kids?

My son has been doing great with the gluten free- over one week now,

and the unique E with gamma seems to be the difference over his past

behavior issues on regular d-alpha tocopheral.

Thanks to everyone who is taking the time to post here, I am

learning alot from you all about school issues, listening therapy

(our next step), and much more!!! Hope you don't mind frequent

posts, but this group has so much information to be had!!!

I was diagnosed with hypothyroid almost immediately after I gave

birth to my son. I only gained 12 pounds the whole pregnancy - I

think it was " burning out " while I was pregnant. I'm currently on

levoxyl. Is this the same thing as hashimotos?

Subject: Re: Apraxia related to Hashimoto's Thyroiditis?

Actually, untreated celiac disease can cause a LOT of autoimmune problems.

Within the last year and a half, my dad has been dx'd with hashi's and my

mom was just dx'd with rheumatoid arthritis, and my sister with Lupus. My

other other sister has asthma that is triggered by her allergy to wheat. I

keep telling them all to stay away from wheat. My asthmatic sister will only

listen when she has an asthma attack and is hospitalized.. ha.

Thus far, I have not been diagnosed with anything, but I am soon to be going

to the doctor's to see if I have anything autoimmune going on.. as it stands

to reason with both sisters and parents having autoimmune disorders. I am

the only one with children old enough to know if it has caused any damage. I

hate to think that it could have been prevented. but, like I said, we all

found this out recently, and my daughter is 6. Too bad they don't routinely

check your thyroid in pregnancy. They sure can run a whole lot of other

tests!

--I'm not sure about levoxyl, I take synthroid, but the slow thyroid

accompanied by antibodies in the blood for Hashimoto's turns a

thyroid disorder into this autoimmune subgroup. I just tested

negative for celiac in my blood draw, but who knows what genetic

stuff might be there! My son has been doing great on GF added to

casein free, big changes! And he is actually gaining weight which is

a first, go figure that all those fatty acids couldn't beef him up

but this diet can!!! - In

I was looking for something else, but found this interesting

article. Autoimmune disorders (like, hashimoto's thyroiditis and

celiac disease) do tend to run in families. It sounds like others on

this board have noted a high incidence of celiac disease in people

with apraxia. It also seems a lot of people with food allergies have

apraxia. This article describes a connection with an immune

deficiency (called specific IgA deficiency) that is often related to

asthma, food allergies, celiac disease, recurrent ear infections

and/or recurrent sinus or respiratory infections. Maybe there is some

useful information here for people with celiac disease, apraxia and

food allergies or recurrent/persistent respiratory infections. The

In our case, developmentally delayed now 4.5 yrs, i can't really give

him this " new " dx apraxia. It's TOXICITY!!! It impairs immune

system, gut dysbiosis (i would never have guessed it) thus sensative

to gluten and casien (milk protien).

Everyone on this list should get a DAN! Dr. and find out if their

child is TOXIC... inability to excrete. The children in the 2000's

are less severe than kids in the 90's (autism).... why.....VACCINES!

For goodness sakes, we all need to take a hard look at the safety (or

lack there of) of the vaccines. Read the book Evidence of Harm with

an open mind.

--, Thank you for your posts and previous info on the DAN

conference. I am continuing to research the gut issue, so far we

have had many blood and urine tests for amino acids and toxins, etc.

My son has shown high sarcosine and glycine in studies, but no

reports of " other " yet, DAN Dr soon. But he is responding

tremendously to Carnitine, fatty acids, vitamin E, Immune boosters,

And casein/gluten free diet. I think our source for inflammation is

the celiac route or some type of Crohn's? Yet to be determined. But

I do remember how horribly ill my litle one was after the vaccines

and antibiotics(possibly worse). I am searching all avenues for him!-

I have a thyroid problem dx. as multinodular goiter. i've been taking

supplements for 8 months now and my thyroid nodules have markedly

improved but the Dr. just mentioned possible Hashimoto's in the

future-he needs to watch the course of the thyroid hormones and

nodules. I also have major gut issues with no positive blood tests

showing celiac.--also was on some meds for svere reflux while

pregnant. I'm always trying to think of why this happened to my

daughter. Cheryl-

--Thank you for responding, since starting the celiac diet my son

has gained 4 lbs in a little over 2 weeks which is huge for him. He

has never been below weight, but had one year in which he only

gained 1 lb. Despite lots of food and lots of fatty acids! He also

is gaining clarity into his deductive reasoning, and whats happening

around him! It is a big change! Genetic tests are soon, so we'll see

if there is something there?!

Hi I'm new to this group.

My mom has a wheat allergy (not as severe as celiac's). My son who

turned 3 in mid March has recently been diagnosed as " either severe

phonological disorder versus verbal apraxia of speech. " he had

failure to thrive at age 2, because he was only in the 18th

percentile for weight, he has had chronic diarrhea and feeding issues

since birth (including GERD diagnosis at 2 months old). He has

eczema. At 2 years old we changed pediatricians and he was suspected

to have autism but that was eventually ruled out. He has been on

pediasure and daily iron tablet for a year, and a daily probiotic

tablet since Nov 2006, all of this raising his weight to the 43rd

percentile. He is still in size 2T's.

I have questioned whether he has celiac disease or a wheat allergy

but due to all the " other " issues I just have not been successful in

getting GI testing, I'm circling back and readdressing this issue on

May 22 with a pediatric GI specialist.

I'm very interested in reading all I can about this possibility.

BTW I just filed for due process hearing regarding the local Early

Intervention through the schools. As a rookie I feel overwhelmed and

undereducated. Feeling like I'm fighting everyone in my or my

child's life right now. But, I'm slogging through and willing to

help others.

Glad to meet everyone.

North Carolina (anyone else here in Chatham County? Looking for local

friends/support with similar issues also.)
