Guest guest
Hi everybody! I have been just " lurking " for a few months, learning all I could from you all about apraxia and supplements, therapies ect. ect. My name is and my daughter was diagnosed with apraxia at 3 years old. We have had speech therapy since she was 18 months, she is now 8 and speaking very well. Is in a regular 2nd grade classroom with a Para-pro. she is pulled out of class for speech, ot, (for slight motor planning delays), and gets help from a teacher consultant for math and reading. Besides apraxia, has microcephaly (head circumference 19.5 in. at age 8) , exema, and lower than average IQ test results. Most recent IQ, test performed by a school psychologist labels her as 60 IQ. We live in Michigan , near Bay City. Perhaps someone knows of a good doctor in my area who could do a complete evaluation, someone who could tie it all up for us and come up with a therapy plan. I believe she also has some sensory integration stuff going on , she hates coughing noise and music from the car radio. The seams at the toe of her socks bother her. I know she's smarter than 60 IQ, She can read at first grade level with great comprehension. She loves to draw and color, and is very good at it. She takes Ballet and the teacher had no idea there was anything wrong with her till I said something. She really only started to speak at around age 5. Until then she had a few words and some signs but no real communication till age 5. Now she is about 85 % understandable. Still pretty quiet with people she doesn't know, but can talk endlessly with us! I have been fiddeling around with fish oils, evening primrose and vit. E, have seen some improvement. Just ordered the recommended Nordic naturals EFA and EPA so we'll see if that does anything. Just thought I'd let you all know who we are, and see if maybe soemone out there has some advice for me. p.s. was adopted from the fostercare system at age 15 months. Guest guest
Chances are the psychologist is using verbal testing. Request that they do the TONI 3, it is a non verbal test. My son was misdiagnosed for years because they did verbal testing. At 11 they finally did the TONI 3 and discovered he had low verbal scores, but average non verbal scores.
