Dear Dr. Flynn and All,

Hello and welcome to this forum! You will find many wonderful people here--both in/from Kenya and those in the USA and elsewhere who are working in the field of HIV/AIDS and development in Kenya and Africa--and am sure you will have many contacting you via this forum.

I am posting your note to some who might be of specific help, or w/whom I think you'd like to link: Dr. Mike Meegan of ICROSS Kenya (icross@... ); Dr. Chung (mhchung@... ), who runs the Hope Center for Infectious Diseases at the Coptic Hospital in Nairobi (treatment a specialty); Dr. Joe Mamlin of AMPATH (iuteam@... ); and Father Angelo D'Agostino (also a medical doctor) of the Nyumbani Home for Children and Nyumbani Village (angelo@... ).

Wams (Margaret) Gichuki has pointed out your posting to some of our members here already (and I have cc'd a couple nonprofits I am working with in the Kisii area, who are not in this forum), and I'll be happy to help network and link you with others too. I head two HIV/AIDS-related nonprofits, one the international branch (USA) of a Kenyan NGO in Mumias called KAIPPG (www.kaippg.org )--Kenya AIDS Intervention Prevention Project Group--and one an international arts coalition called ActALIVE (www.actalive.org ), whose members use the arts to address HIV/AIDS and the MDGs. We have a number of Kenyan members.

With many thanks for joining us here, and for your own invaluable work, and look forward to net/working together in future! All best wishes, Janet Feldman, kaippg@...

Dear Neil,

Deafimpact is afaith based organisation in Western

kenya,Nyanza province,in Kisumu city,our catchment

areas are the slums of kisumu and nyando Districts.

We exist to empower the deaf (persons with hearing

disabilities) psychologically,phisicallyand

spiritually and socially to cope with psychosexual and

HIV/AIDS pandemic.

Approximately 76 percent of the deaf below 18years

do not know about HIV and AIDS hence there is aneed

for initiating anetwork targeting the deaf in and out

of schools.

Major health concerns among the deaf in western kenya

includes the following,Malaria,Accidents,Sexual abuse

and HIV/AIDS---main cause of mottality.

NOW MY FRINNDS LETS THINK ABOUT THESE TO HELP THE DEAF

COMMUNITY ALIVE.

DEAFIMPACT.

Hi, My name is Cherry. I live in the Burleson area....I have a 9

year old daughter who is severely apraxic....We discovered this at

about 3 when she still wasnt talking. (Actually at 3 she wasnt even

walking)...

After quite a few years of speec, occupational, physical therapy there

have been big improvements but we still have a long way to go....

My daughter also has ADHD and seems to be on a 5year old level...She

struggles in school and was held back in 1st grade....She has great

difficulty making and keeping friends which seems to be one of the many

symptoms of apraxia.....

Its so sad how society treats these children and how there peers can be

extremely mean.....

If you have been in this situation or are dealing with this please let

me know its going to be alright...

I would like to know how an older apraxic child is doing if there is

one on this website...Thanks KarEN Cherry....
