Guest guest
Hi Jeanne, can we reply to this email? Do we send it direct to on the email shown? [ ] from another digest Need some advice Posted by: " bennwendy3927 " bennwendy3927@... bennwendy3927 Fri Nov 3, 2006 2:28 am (PST) I have not posted in a long time but need some help.I'm very sorry it's lengthly. I have a daughter who turned 4 Oct.21. When she was 3 we decided to put her in a special education class because she was behind in her development, mostly in speech. They tested her and determined she was more like a 1 1/2 to 2 yr old mentally. They suggested a hearing test that's done with machines not the one where you raise you hand when you hear the beep. We discovered she failed her test. She had ear tube surgery on march 15 th 06, because of thick mucus in her ears. Since then nothing has improved. She actually got worse as far as speech and her personallity went down hill. She was more crabby and had tantrums more often. The school said she would not participate in any activities even though she participated just a little bit before. She would just sit by herself in a corner. The doc said it's because she is adjusting to her " new ears " . Well now months later she picks in them constantly saying they feel dirty, docs say there fine. We have her in a program called Headstart, she gets one on one classes with the special education teach and speech therapist through the school. Well the problem is she won't talk at all to the teachers. She just sits there all bottled up. She will be playing all happy and fine and just start crying and they don't know why. I think she would be over being separated from me by now so I'm not sure if that's the problem. She talks at home but it's very unclear and hard to understand. She is now being tested for autism. I am wondering if speech therapy like at the hospital here would be more benificial. Insurance won't cover it unless she's autistic or has downs syndrom. I am going to see if they will cover it because it was caused by her ear mucus. I need some help. I don't know what to do with her. I don't know how to help her. How do we get her talk. Is there any good websites or resources. I'm scared sleepless that this is permanent and she's going to struggle in kindergarten. Thanks for any advice.
