ADA stands for Americans with Disability Act. The entire act can be

accessed on-line. I would go either to the index or enter " ADA work

rules " in a web browser as it is extremely lengthy.

I don't know if you are familiar with an IEPC for disabled children,

but the accommodations are similar. When I was working (as a teacher

consultant for handicapped children) I had accomodations: no stairs,

accessible bathrooms in each building, non-skid ramps, work area large

enough for wheelchair, etc.). You can have anything written into the

plan that will make it possible for you to continue to work at your

job. There are limitations, such as not being able to stay in a job

that requires climbing when you are using a wheelchair. You can have

accomodations that will help decrease crashes and one to allow you

extra days off work without negative results. It can state the need

for shorter days if getting them is a problem.

It is basically a letter written by you or for the first time, you and

the personal department. It is a letter that specifies needs. They

often want a statement from the doctor as to what he thinks and why. I

talked with my doctor before he did this.

The on-line information should be able to help you. I found that I was

able to prevent most crashes by carefully looking at what would help

me be functional by using accomodations. For me, it meant changing my

assignment to one that elimated steps and allowed me to stay in one

school district instead of lots of traveling.

Feel free to e-mail me privately if you have specific questions.
