Guest guest
My 33 mo old is in the process of being evaluated for Apraxia and has a vocabulary of 15 words. She has never attempted a word on her own and refused to try to imitate words after several early attempts resulted in failures and frustrations. Like you, I poured over messages from this site and I started a notebook of research on terminology on Apraxia and speech disorders. I began using Omegas at 1 capsule daily and Vit E 400 IU daily. Within one week she spontaneously said a word. Three weeks later with no intervention she has 5 new words and is trying to repeat words. We have to break them down. I'm using the Kaufman method, I researched that and made up my own way to improvise until therapy. The change in her speech is phenominal at this point. I don't plan on consulting her pediatrician. I'm in the process of looking for a developmental pediatrician who can better understand. I want to encourage you to stick with it. I'm convinced by the vitamins. My ADD son is calmer and more attentive as well. All three of my children take the vitamins. I started by squirting them in juice. She drank it up. Then I squirted it in yogurt. She didn't like the change-nothing to do with the taste or sight of it. She doesn't do change easily. She saw big sister swallow hers with juice so we gave them to her. She initially chewed into a couple of the vit E. and we encouraged her to swallow a bite of yogurt and drink juice. After about 4 attempts she was successful. Then we tried the larger Omega capsule. She did it on the first try and has never bitten in one. I never thought a 2 1/2 yo would swallow a pill; but, mine does! My four year old took a little longer to convince. I put the whole pill in a bite of yogurt and told him to swallow it. After several days he quit throwing a fit and does it just fine now. Now they remind me to give them their jellies. Good luck! Keep pressing in and write down all your research. Don't let the pediatrician be the final answer. I've been giving my kids vitamins for years and eating wholistically. I've been to three pediatricians. My previous pediatrician told me she supported everything I did but she had to follow the American College of Pediatric Guidelines which don't allow for a lot of my herbal treatments and some of the megadoses that work. Anyhow, good luck. We are all in the same boat. And I'm another one who can attest to the benefits of it. Blessings, Tara Ebert
Guest guest
I squeeze the fish oil out of the capsule into a little medicine cup , then fill it w/ welch's grape juice (not diluted..I typically do half water/half juice). Because he's not used to " straight " juice, he takes it very well w/out complaint. I call it his " vitamin juice " . Hope you find the answers you're looking for..there's a lot of info out there, just make sure you get you're info from a reputable source. c4char <c4char@...> wrote: Hi, My son 28 mo. has been diagnosed with verbal apraxia and our speech therapist has recommended omega supplements. My wife mentioned it to to our pediatrician because we wanted to find out what type of pills and the recommended dosage for a 28 mo old. Our pediatrician was not very supportive of giving our child the supplement because she said that there is no proof that they are good. She wanted to see the report from the speech therapist before she would give us the recommended dosage and what exact type we should get. Honestly, I think the pediatrician isn't very knowledgeable on the supplements and is a bit old school and may not be up to date on newer studies of medicine. Anyway, From everything that I have read, it seems that they can be extremely beneficial so we definitely want to try. Could someone please let me know what type to buy and what is the recommended dosage for a 28mo old. I would also like to know the best way to give the pill to my little guy. Read something about freezing the pill, mixing with liquids, burping, etc. Thanks in advance. I just found this group last night and I am going to be reading everything I possibly can in order to help my little one. Our state has an Early Intervention program which he qualified for and has been seeing our speech therapist since 25 mo. He has been on once a week session for approx 45 min. The specialist decided that next week he will be increased to two times a week for 45 min sessions. We are looking forward to his progress. He has been doing better since the therapy started but still has a ways to go. Thanks for your contributions.
Guest guest
My son was recently diagnosed by a Pediatric Neurologist as having Speech Apraxia. We use Nordic Naturals 3-6-9 or ProEFA's, they are both the same however, 3-6-9 you can get right at the GNC. We started slowly with our 2.5 yr old and now he takes 2 in his morning yogurt and 2 in his evening yogurt. We have noticed an increase in his attention and words, which is very encouraging. Leane Mom to 4.5 and Ethan 2.
Guest guest
I purchased the Nordic Natural Omega 3 6 9 Junior. My son is 28 months and weighs almost 30 pounds. My pediatrician was not a help when we asked for the recommended dosage. I asked the speech therapist as well who recommended the omega but she did not know how much to give either. Should I give my 28 mo. son one gel capsule or two gel capsules a day? and where did you get the dosage information from? Please let me know as soon as possible.
