Guest guest
Wow!! I finally got pics put in the photo album here! They're in the album, Olivia F. I just have to say a little something about the first picture with Terence in it. His mom and I met in the hospital while sharing a room waiting for our babies to be born. They were born 10 days apart and both preemies. It's cute looking at them together now and I'm happy to say that 4 years later we still talk about twice a week on the phone! Enjoy and have a great weekend. Leah. Mom to Olivia 4 yrs. 18lbs. and Ash 8 non-RSS
Guest guest
Hi Leah, I just got the chance to look at the pic section for the first time in a while, and I wanted to say that Olivia is small, but adorable just like the rest of our kids! LOL GREAT job mom! Pat (g-ma to , RSS, 24 months (TOMORROW!!!), 20# 5.2oz, 29 " , Prevacid, Zantac, Singulair, GT)
Guest guest
Hi Teri, My oldest, (non-RSS), stand all of 4'10 " at 23 years old, and she would have to agree with all of you that the " cute " and " doll " comments get REALLY annoying! LOL She, too, has lamented over the years, about not being able to reach things without help. She's even commented about taking her two-step ladder to the grocery store so that she didn't have to wait for someone to get things off the top shelves! LOL After a while, I guess you just get used to it. She deals by wearing 3 " heels most of the time! She was SO happy when the big chunky soles came into fashion! LOL Thanks for sharing. Guest guest
Hi Eileen. I'm 28 now. They told me i would only be about 4'3 without GH treatment. I know having to give Imogen shots is hard to do, but in my opinion I'm so glad my parents gave them to me. Growing up, I didn't understand why i had to go through all of that, but looking back, it wasn't so bad and they did help. I'm so thankful for everything my parents did to help me. Before I started taking GH i didn't have any body fat at all. They couldn't pinch any fat. When i was on the shots I could out eat anybody, my appetite was great. Even though I have never had trouble eating, I was actually able to start gaining some weight. Now i joke about which inch of fat would they like to pinch now, I have plenty to choose from. I was very lucky I never had any side effects from the GH. Like I said, from my opinion I think taking the shots is well worth the height gain, no matter how many inches they help add. I know a couple of the other RSS Adults didn't take the shots and are very happy being the height they are without them. I've always had a very good outlook on being short, I date regularly, which I always tend to look for shorter guys but always end up dating the ones that are 6' or taller. It took me a long time to be able to go out places with somebody that tall and not worry what other people think. If we are happy thats all that matters. I didn't start puberty till i was alittle older. I was in the 8th grade. so they didn't have to give me any medications to delay it. Another thing to add to some of your post. I did notice that alot of RSS children are blonde headed. As you can tell from my pics, I've always had really dark hair and lots of it. So i'm not sure if thats a characteristic, I've also always been pretty dark completed and tan very easily. Maybe low level of pigmentation is a characteristic and i just missed it, but i do have blue eyes. If ya anything else ya wan to ask..feel free. Guest guest
Hi Teri.....can I ask how old you are now? What you say about being short is the only thing 'wrong' with you is such a brilliant attitude. I work in a primary scool for spec needs kids and this is brought home to me everyday. There are so many worse things. Anyway....were you given an estimated final height without gh treatment? Imogen was on gh for about a year when she was 3....we absolutley hated injecting her. She is now 6....I know you're not a dr and I don't want to put any pressure on you...but I what do you think about restarting gh treatment? Do you think your treatment was worth the height gain?? Also....bit personal this one.....how old were you when you started puberty? Did you have medication to delay it? Eileen ( Imogen 6 36 " 16lbs) tmshorty75@... wrote: Hi Eileen! Yes I took GH treatment for about 4 years when I was in early elementary. I grew about 7 inches in that 4 years and I'm up to 4'8. I had always been very tiny. I've read some of your post before and as people say about Imogen, I couldn't tell you how many times people said I looked like a living doll. I still hear " your so cute " alot. You asked me if I was happy and content with my height. I have always wondered what it would have been like to be taller. Like everytime i go to the store and have to ask for help reaching things, but I have accepted the fact that God made me special. I'm so lucky to be alive, and if being short is the only thing I have wrong with me I am truly blessed. I've never let my height get in the way of doing anything I wanted to do. Guest guest
Hi Eileen. I'm not exactly sure how old I was when I started GH. I know I was in 2nd or 3rd Grade. I took them till I was in the 6th. I don't remember the docs telling me about any side effects, I'm sure she told my parents. I was just to young to really know what was going on. I tuned alot of stuff out. Just curious on what side effects with the heart did they tell ya'll could be? The only problem I've had is prolapes valve (I think thats what it is), which alot of non RSS adults have too. I have to take antibotics before any dental work, but thats about it. Of course I took these over 20 years ago. I'm sure they have come along ways by now. They were still experimental back then. I do know several RSS adults that are married, but I don't know of any with kids. I know i've heard a couple say they might start trying. Guest guest
Eileen. No, I didn't have excessive growth in my feet or hands. I still wear a size 13 (kids) shoe. Its so hard to find shoes to fit. My hands and wrist are still very tiny. I hate trying to find watches cause i always have to add a couple of holes for it to fit. I also have to shop in kids department for gloves. I haven't had any problems with diabetes. I was just checked last checkup and everything was fine. I still pass out occationally when my sugar gets to low and I will get headaches if I don't eat regularly. Teri
Guest guest
Hi Teri. So the hormone treatment gave you 5 extra inches....that's pretty good isn't it. We may have to have another think about the treatment in the new year. But as Imogen is only 6 I thought maybe we could delay it. Can you remeber how old you were when you started the treatment? and how old when you stopped? Also we were told that there may be health implications in later life from the gh treatment. Heart problems. Were you told this. I find this the most worrying thing about gh treatment. Also...I know there is an adult RSS woman on the site (kelly I think) who is married....do you know of any RSS adult woman who have had babies? I'm so glad you are doing so well.......not suprised those 6' guys love you!! Eileen tmshorty75@... wrote: Hi Eileen. I'm 28 now. They told me i would only be about 4'3 without GH treatment. Guest guest
Hi Teri.......can't remember exactly about the heart problems....just that there might be in the future.....and as all low birthweight babies are more prone to heart trouble anyway it did cause me some concern.I think another side effect is sposed to be diabetes. Also doesn't gh treatment cause excessive growth in hands, feet and chin?? Mind you with Rss kids they culd do with a little growth in these areas! I think we'll def have to have a chat with our endo sometime in the new year. I am very impressed with that extra 5 inches it seems to have given you. I was wondering if RSS women have trouble concieving and giving birth. I would imagine they would have to have a c section as your pelvis's must be small....especially as it is unlikely that you would have an RSS baby so you would be giving birth maybe to a wapping 8 pounder... Mapping out your future for you here Teri....especially if you are gonna marry one of those 6 footers! Eileen tmshorty75@... wrote: Hi Eileen. I'm not exactly sure how old I was when I started GH. Guest guest
Well that's all good to hear. Yep...Imogens hands and feet are still teensy......her hands are not much bigger than a babies. and her feet Iare small....but they're kind of long and narrow....so we have problems finding shoes that fit her snugly. I was looking at your pics again...the second one of you as a baby looks a lot like Imogen....same cute features......tho Immi is not so chubby in the face. Well....Teri...you've almost convinced me we should start the old gh treatment again for Immi. Would love her to get to 4' 8 like you...she wouldn't be that much smaller than me then at 5' 1 " !! tmshorty75@... wrote: Eileen. No, I didn't have excessive growth in my feet or hands. Guest guest
Hi eileen i was just reading your post to teri and you were asking about fertility and kids. At the recent CGF convention Dr Stanhope said he had heard of 2 RSS men fathering " normal " kids but has never heard of any RSS women conceiving or giving birth, hpe this helps. I have a few gynecological problems but am not sure if they due to RSS (my GP thinks so) but I have been referred to Dr Gerry Conway at the Middlesex Hospital so i am hoping he may have some answer and poss solutions. Guest guest
thanks Kim...I was rather hoping Imogen might have a family one day....tho' obviously the pregnancy would not be easy and she'd prob have to have to have an early caesar. Guest guest
Hi all, As a short adult woman (5 ft on a good day) non RSS, I am going to add my two cents here. First, my brother (non RSS) took growth hormones and there were no side effects. As for fathering a child, his first baby is due in March. As for me, my doctor told me that if I was any smaller, I would have had trouble carrying a baby to term. There is a certain length needed througout the pelvis to carry a child. I had one cousin who was on bed rest through her entire pregnancy due to being so small. As for RSS women, I do not know of any who have carried a baby, although GHT would probably help (due to increased size) rather than hurt. Also, I have dealt with all of the related issues over the years that being small can bring: not reaching things, problems finding appropriate clothing/shoes, reaching the pedals to drive, comments etc. My son is absolutely starting GHT the minute the paperwork goes through (per our last visit with Dr H). In addition, there is a history of early puberty in my family. I will be watching my non RSS daughter carefully to see if she will need medical intervention as well. Anyway, just my two cents.
