Guest guest
Hi everyone, I have a quick question. I live in Florida, and although it is not an enforcable law yet (but will be soon), the recommendation for a child under 80 lbs. is to be in a booster seat in the car. My son is 10 years old and weighs only 48 lbs. It is hard to imagine how old he will be when he gets to 80 lbs. I am thinking how age appropriate is it for a child that age to be in a booster seat? I am imagining taking him to junior high (which is not too far away) & him getting out of the car from a booster seat in front of all of his friends. Even now in 4th grade, I think he would be teased. Also, I see a lot of people comment on the size clothes & shoes their children are wearing. , of course, is small all over, but is hands and feet have always been particularly small. He is still in a toddler size shoe - a 12.5, but can maybe stretch it to a 13. Anyone else out there with older children who haven't made the switch yet to regular kid-sized shoes? I know compares pretty typically for height for a RSS boy his age. He is 50.25 " & has been on growth hormone for almost 2.5 years. On another note, we made the trip to New York last week to see Dr. H for the first time. I am glad we went. We got many questions answered that shed some light on the that happened to him as he was growing up in addition to recommendations for the future. I'll give an update on this visit at a later time, as I have to go to work now! Kim C.

Guest guest
Kim, In many states the car seat laws are 80lbs., but there is also a provison in the law that provides an age cut-off in addition to the weight requirement. In other words, it's an either/or type of thing - 80lbs. OR a certain age. In Colorado the rule IS 80lbs., but I think the age cutoff is somewhere around the age of eight. I would check and see if your state has this provision. Growing up, my parents were occassionally questioned as to why I wasn't in a car seat and once they explained that a carseat/booster seat wasn't age appropriate for me they were never hassled. ~Hillary 21, RSS 60lbs.
