Guest guest
Hi All, A special hello to the families here who have newly joined MAGIC, recently joined the list-serve or maybe have even sent me an email in the last few months. Where the heck has Katy been? And why hasn't she written to us? I have missed all of you terribly. I want to just update you on what's been going on, and why RSS was put in the " back burner " recently in our family. Perhaps some of you have spoken or emailed , so you may already know the story. In late October, just before my 42nd birthday, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Had a mastectomy on 12/2. The post-op pathology shows that there may be some spread to the lymph nodes so it's back to surgery on 1/6, followed by a chemotherapy regimen. Am very lucky to be at Sloan Kettering, right across the street from Dr. Harbison, in fact! I remain optimistic that all will turn out fine. I feel horrible that in these last crazy 6 weeks I have neglected families that may have written asking about RSS and MAGIC. I know that dear , and Jodi have probably been doing their usual wonderful " magic " by writing to all of you privately or on the listserve. Now that I am in " wait " mode, I'm going to catch up on the listserve postings, see what I've missed. And slowly get back to helping the MAGIC Foundation again... I also learned that while on chemo I'll be on some sort of appetite stimulant, so i'll be curious to see if is one that is good for our kids!!! My spirits are good...humor intact...wondering if I'll look more like Telly Savalas or Sinead O'Conner if my hair should fall out... We are overdue for our 3-month check up for with Dr. H., so we'll hopefully be in there in the next 2 weeks if she can squeeze us in. I hope you are all well, that your children are getting the care they need and that the holidays are filled with peace, love and health for your families!!!! love, katy (rss2katy@... or katyudine@...) Guest guest
Sorry to hear about your diagnoses, I will keep you and your family in my prayers for a speedy recovery. As I remember your family the most from our first convention .....Thank-You!!! and your husband for being so kind. I haven't posted much since I went into " mourning " of not getting a RSS diagnoses for (the little red-head). Since comming home we have discovered that has obstructive sleep apnea and that could be attributing to his lack of growth, something so simple and no one thought of it first. So, fast forward... was hospitalized with a severe sinus infection in Nov and we pushed for him to have surgery, ASAP. After a month on antibiotics we went in for sinuscopy and larengeoscope on Dec 11th and the surgeon removed his tonsils and partial adnoids. We are still in hospital as collapsed part of his right lung and has pnumonia in left lung. We are however on to the road to recovery. It will be nice to see if starts growing. Also, thanks for reminding me how important it is to look after our health as I too have to go for a momogram and u/s for something suspicious in my breast. I guess I better get going. Good Luck and take care, Barb and Garrett Calgary, Canada
Guest guest
Hi Katy, I was wondering about you. In fact I was getting a little concerned. I guess I* was right. I am sorry to hear about your illness. I sincerely hope that your treatment is painless, and that all of your cancer is eliminated. My wife's sister in law is going through the same thing this very moment, so we know what you are up against. I wish you a complete cure. Please keep us informed.
