Hi Pat,

Sorry for the confusion! I must have forgotten to mention that it's

really important to look at the chart that shows BMI for age. A

healthy BMI for children is much lower than a healthy BMI for adults

(18.5 is the cutoff for adults, not children).

Here are some sites that give for BMI-for-age:

http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/bmi-for-age.htm

http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nhanes/growthcharts/set1/chart15.pdf

The first site has a good explanation, and the second site is a chart

that's easy to read.

Also, SORRY for the confusion b/t weight-for-height and body mass

index. I've never talked to Dr. H about her ideas on BMI. She just

took one look at Tyler and said of course he's WAY too thin ... and

not healthy b/c of that.

I calculate Tyler's BMI and use the CDC chart just so I can keep

track of whether his weight gain is keeping up as he gets taller.

It's been useful for me to see that when his BMI improves, people

comment on how much more energy he has and how much healthier he

looks.

Pat, I hope this helps you or someone else (even though it's

different than weight-for height).

(Tyler, 4 1/2, 97.5 cms, 12.65 kgs; , 3 1/2; Kelsey, 19

mos)
