Hi,

Maddison had a routine appointment with her opthopedic lastweek. We

were talking to him about asymetry and he said kids with asymetry

tend to have a chance of getting Wills Tumors??? I don't know even

know how to spell it, that is probably wrong. So he recommends she

have an ultrasound of her abdmonen twice a year. We have been the

convention twice and I have learned a lot from you guys but I have

never heard of this before. Has anyone elso heard this? If so

please fill me in.

melissa our endo told us the same thing as well. the good new with

welms tumor is that afer the kids hit 3yr or older the chances of

getting it is greatally decreased according to our urologist.

Dr. H cleared up the cancer/asymmetry link for me at this years

convention. There are two ways to obtain an asymmetric body shape,

one side of the body grows too fast - hemihypertophy - or one side

grows too slow - hemiatrophy. The liver/kidney cancer risk is

associated with hemihypertophy. I do not know of any RSS kids with

this cause of asymmetry, though I suppose it is possible. You should

make sure the asymmetry is properly diagnosed.
