Guest guest
, Has a doctor published on the increase in Weight for Height bringing on adrenarche, or is this Harbison's theory? My pediatrician last night was thrilled that Matt is on the 10th percentage for weight and height. The whole " But he is getting to fat for his height " fell on deaf ears. Not that I am overly concerned, but I am relieved that I don't feel like I have to shove high calorie stuff at him all day long! Just wondering if there is something in writing that I can give my doc down here? Beth H.
Guest guest
Hmmm.... good question. I know that I added an article to MAGIC called " Premature Adrenarche " that talked about weight issues. THis is all so new. I believe that if you do some research through PubMed into premature adrenarche, there is probably some discussion about the issue of being overweight influencing it. But I haven't had the time to research this yet (still trying to finalize next year's convention speakers). If you find anything, will you let me know? (But yes, it is also Dr. H's theory, but I don't think it is a new theory, maybe just new for RSS/SGA kids???) > , > > Has a doctor published on the increase in Weight for Height bringing > on adrenarche, or is this Harbison's theory? Guest guest
Hi All:-) I am going to add my two cents to this with real life experience. My daughter at about 19 months started to have body odor and she was at the 95th percentile weight for height. she gained weight quickly in about 40 days after reaching the height for her nutrition deficit. You have to be careful here and call your Endo when sudden and quick weight gain happens. Dr H said Janelle was beginning adrenarche (if I remember right) from the tests she ran. We put Janelle on a diet and her body odor started to go away as she lost some weight. We do not know at this point how the future would have been since she was pumped up with calories in the hospital on TPN shortly there after. Dr H was certain Janelle had become insulin resistant after the TPN but we never had a chance to check. They made her quite obese and were happy with her weight gain but I was not. This is one reason why we need our primary and specialty doctors who see our children to call and listen to Dr H. I can not stress this point enough. > > Reply-To: RSS-Support > Date: Sat, 13 Dec 2003 04:47:11 -0000 > To: RSS-Support > Subject: Re: Weight for Height - Published info? > > Hmmm.... good question.
