Guest guest
Hi Liisa, Welcome to the group. I'm sorry to hear you are having so much pain. What kinds of tests have you had done? Do you have a diagnosis? The best pain relief for me, other than medication, has been a long soak in a hot bath. It seems to help relax the muscles. I also use a heating pad or ice packs, depending on which feels better at the time. There are lots of folks here with more knowledge of back problems than me. I'm still waiting for a neurosurgeon consult to determine if surgery is a good option for my spinal stenosis, sciatica and degenerative disk disease. Again, welcome to the group. Hope you have a pain free a day as possible. in NC > > Hi everyone, > > My name is Liisa I am almost 37 yrs old. I have had problems with my > back for about 8 yrs now. Guest guest
Hi , So far I have been told it is Arthiritis and my excessive weight. I have been giving exercises to do to tighten my abs that will help support my back. I have a Drs appointment on Tues to talk to her about the pain. I am hoping for a referral to a pain specialist. I am doing some cleaning today and going for a walk. I am having a good day today. If needed I will be soaking in the whirlpool tub we have. I find it really helps. Guest guest
Hi again Liisa, I used to get the same old story..... lose weight.... it will help. Well, guess what..... I lost 75 pounds after being diagnosed with diabetes. And it hasn't helped one dang bit with the back problems. If anything, the degenerative process has accelerated. Now, I'm not saying it isn't a good thing to drop a few pounds because it will put less stress on weight bearing joints. But it sure isn't a cure all by any means. Hang in there........ if the pain doesn't improve, ask for an MRI to see exactly what is going on. Pain free days to you, > > Hi , > So far I have been told it is Arthiritis and my excessive weight. Guest guest
Hi welcome to the group. Has your dr said if surgery will help you at all? And have you considered it? I know what you mean its cruel the way pain steals so many of lifes joys from us. I used to think that one by one the things I loved to do were taken from me. BUT I have learned to cope with it in the last 6 yrs. Don't get me wrong I'd much rather have my old life back but I have learned to change somethings so I can still enjoy doing them. I think a positive outlook goes a long way in the healing process. But I'd also much rather be able to do more, like go out to dinner or a movie or just go shopping without worrying I will feel bad and have to get home. I hope you find a way to ease your pain and get more of your oldl life back. Again welcome to the group and best wishes for as painfree day as possible. Guest guest
Hi Liisa, I am 36 y.o. also. I have had back and neck pain since my minor MVA in 11/01. When my pain was getting very bad I lost a bunch of weight. Over 25 lbs. Even though it was good for me to lose weight it didn't make a difference with my pain. I still hurt regardless. So perhaps it can make a significant dfifference for others it didn't for me. I still have a bad back that needed/needs help. Are you seeing a Pain management Doc? I think it is very good to start with a conservative approach. PT is a very good thing to do in my opinion, but it seemed to me that it took a large time commitment and time to see the benifits. I have always thought that PT helped me, some times more than other times. Welcome to the group. I look forward to getting to know you. Guest guest
Thanks Sharon, no I haven't thought about surgery. The pain is been a little better lately. We bought a foam mattress cover and it seems to be helping some. I have back exercises to do to keep my muscles from stiffening up. I also do relaxation techniques to keep relaxed and not tensing so much. It seems to be helping. Liisa > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > My name is Liisa I am almost 37 yrs old. Guest guest
Hi Liisa glad to hear the pad is helping you. There are some links in the links section too that are great stretching exercises. Everything I had read lately keeps saying that stretching and walking are two of the best things for pain relief. I know I walk every morning and it helps me loosen up. Hope you keep feeling better. Good luck. Sharon Group Owner > > Thanks Sharon, no I haven't thought about surgery. The pain is been > a little better lately. We bought a foam mattress cover and it seems > to be helping some. Guest guest
Stretching has helped me a lot. I stretch before I go to bed, when I wake up and any time during the day when my body feels tired. I sit at a desk all day so it really helps me out. > > > > Thanks Sharon, no I haven't thought about surgery. The pain is been > > a little better lately. Guest guest
Hello everyone. I just joined and wanted to introduce. I'm Tammy.. I'm married to a great guy. We have 2 amazing children. A 6 yr old daughter and a 4 yr old son. Our son has very recently been diagnosed with severe Apraxia of speech. The speech therapist made it pretty clear that he is not going to get better on his own.. tho I'm still in a little denial because I don't understand everything about this even though I'm going cross eyed reading everything I can on it. I have to admit I feel pretty scared for my son. And, I also feel pretty helpless at this point. He gets pretty angry when he's not understood.. we don't make a big deal of it as we've learned to understand most of what he has to say. Even tho I know there are many things alot worse in the world that could be, I still feel as if our worlds have just been seriously shaken up and a million things are running through my head. Did some of you feel this way when your child was first diagnosed? I look forward to learning from you all. Thank you. Tammy
Guest guest
Hi Tammy, Can you please let me know where you are in Canada? I am from Canada although currently living in the US. I have 3 children all with apraxia among other issues. Depending on where you live I may be able to help with finding great therapists and assistance for your son. I know that it is very frustrating / scary at times but with the right therapists / support in place it can make a world of difference. Jenn [ ] New here from Canada Hello everyone.
