Guest guest
I haven't posted in awhile but things have been pretty calm lately. However I do have a few questins I am hoping someone can help me with. Keigan has had a cold for about a week now. Monday he started vomiting. I spoke to the doc on the phone and started giving him pedialite. He kept that down but then started throwing that up Tuesday. We went to the doc Tuesday morning and he said Keigan had an ear infection. I guess this can cause the vomiting? Does anyone have any experience with this? It's new to me. So we started an antibiotic for that. Now he will not take the pedialite at all. He will only take half strength formula which he throws up if he has more then an ounce. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance... Mommy to Keigan 4-15-03 (RSS) and Tristian 9-26-
Guest guest
Hi , I don't know about ear infections causing vomiting, however if he can't keep enough liquid down you need to take him to the hospital. RSS children can go hypoglycemic very easily. The last time caught a stomach bug we were in the hospital for 3 days. Are you a patient of Dr H? If so, I would call her office immediately. Guest guest
We have not seen Dr. H but are aware of the hypoglycemia concerns. He is not showing any signs as of yet but this is one of my main concerns with this. He will hold food in if given a small amount. Thanks for responding so quickly! > > > Date: 2003/12/03 Wed AM 10:29:20 EST > To: RSS-Support > Subject: Re: questions on vomiting/ear infections > > Mommy to Keigan 4-15-03 (RSS) and Tristian 9-26-

Guest guest
, My son experiences the retching / vomiting episodes with just about any infection with an accompanying fever. It has been most logically described as a " reactive gut " , the stomach contracts quickly when food is introduced. The only regularly successful method for us has been to give small amounts of pedialite (5cc) and wait 20 minutes, if no retching occurs give a small amount more - continue to increase to a comfortable level (about 15cc bolus for us). This method has kept us out of the hospital for re-hydration therapy. He is usually on pedialite for 24 hrs before we start mixing in formula. Don't forget to keep an eye out for hypoglycemic conditions. > I haven't posted in awhile but things have been pretty calm lately. Guest guest
Thanks for the info. Right now we are pretty much doing what you said you do except with half strength formula. So far he is keeping it down. No signs of dehydration or hypoglyecmia. I just hate having something wrong with him that I can't " fix " . Guest guest
, The only way I know that Tori has an ear infection was increase vomiting. She would never run a fever. Try giving pedialite a tablespoon every fifteen minutes if that stays down then increase it to two tablespoons every half hour until you are up to an hour at a time. It's time consuming and a pain. The meds should start kicking in soon and make a turn around for you. Just keep him hydrated. Make sure there are tears when he cries, moist lips and mouth. and six wet diaper a day at least.
