Guest guest
Hi all, saw Dr H for his regular visit last Tuesday 11/25. First, we went to get weighed and measured. is now up to 11 kilos (24 pounds 4 oz) and 81 cm (just about 32 inches). Then, off to nuclear medicine for a gastric emptying study. We were scheduled for 11 am, so of course they didn't start until after 12. We got back up to Dr H just after 2 for our 1 pm appointment. She finally saw us at 3:40 after I said that I was taking and leaving because I had a sinus infection and hadn't yet been on antibiotics for 24 hours. Thank god my husband and I always do 's appointments together, because I actually fell asleep on one of the benches outside her office. Anyway, after 1 year and 5 months with a gtube, has maxed out his catch-up growth. We are going to be starting growth hormones as soon as they show up. Dr H said that she would do all the paperwork and that we didn't have to do anything except sit back and wait. She appeared to be familiar with our insurance and said that there shouldn't be any problems. Once the growth hormones arrive, we are supposed to bring back in for weight/measurement/blood work/bone scan and then start. Good thing we live nearby. I have no idea what type of growth hormone he will be taking, dosage or anything else. This should be fun. Guest guest
Hi Judith and Steve, I am so happy to see your post and see how well is doing. When will you get the results of 's gastric empyting study? I can't wait to see how well does on the gh. Since he and Jake are days apart in age, I especially love to see how well is progressing. At the end of the month Jake will be on gh for an entire year and we are very happy with his progress. My sister was just up for Thanksgiving and hadn't seen Jake in 5 months. She joked that maybe we should start giving Jake his shots in a different area than his legs since his legs are so long now. (I have long legs and a short torso, so I guess he is just taking after me). Anyway, I wish you all the best as you begin a new " phase " in your lives. I just know will do well! He is such a trooper. Alison > Hi all, > > saw Dr H for his regular visit last Tuesday 11/25. Guest guest
Hey, Judith! Welcome to the club. Now you can join the rest of us who are using gh and trying to find the best way to give the shots. Actually, it is easier than it seems. And you are correct. All you have to do it sit back and wait. It will magically arrive at your door and then you will need to learn how to mix the vial and give the shot. It's really not too bad. As usual, if you have questions, just call me! Guest guest
Hi Alison, We may never get the results of the gastric emptying study. When we did it originally (before surgery) 's was slow but not nearly as bad as some other children. This one was really for Dr H to see how much the surgery helped. It has no bearing at this time on anything we actually do for . Next time we see her (if I remember) I will ask for the results, but it's really no big deal. How tall is Jake now? How are all of you doing? Judith, Steve, (RSS) and (non RSS) 3 yr 9 mo twins
Guest guest
Judith and Steve, Jake is really had a great year. I hate to even say this out loud (I better knock on wood), but other than one minor ear infection last spring he has been completely healthy. He has only been to the pediatrician twice all year!!!! And this includes his 3 year check- up. I really hope I haven't just jinxed him. He was about 33 inches when he started gh on 12/27/02. On his last appt. in October he was up to 37 inches! He is on the 5th percentile for height!!! So not only are we having great success with his height, he is so much healthier since being on the injections! Best wishes, Alison > Hi Alison, > > We may never get the results of the gastric emptying study. Guest guest
Judith, Jon and I had the 10:00 appointment and I know why your appointment was late. We arrived at about 9:45 and got right in. We were with her for quite a while but Dr. New wanted her to come hear some speaker from Russia(I think) at 12:45. I remembered that your appointment was at 1:00 and when I heard Dr. New I figured Dr. H would be late to your appointment. This happened to us once before at Cornell. I highly recommend the 10:00 appointment it seemed like she didn't have a lot of other things to do. Pattie Warren (jon -9)

Guest guest
Debbie, Jon started Dr H's treatment when he was three years old. He was on periactin which brought him from under the 3rd percentile to about the 10th percentile. When his growth from periactin leveled out he began gh. At his last appointment he is almost at the 75th percentile. Although this sounds good you have to remember that he is mild RSS, he has responded very well to gh and this last spurt from the 60th percentile to the 75th may actually be a sign of puberty or at least adrenarche. We will have a bone age done at our next appointment which will tell us whether his bone age is advancing too quickly which would be a sign of adrenarche.
