Inconsistent eating with Periactin

Hi,

We are now on week 3 of Periactin so still not up to the full dose.

Some meals Colin does amazingly well and we are shocked by the

amount and variety of foods he is eating. Then other meals he will

eat absolutely nothing. I was disappointed when he didn't want

anything for Thanksgiving dinner yesterday, but he did ask for

cereal for the first time ever earlier that morning. Is this

inconsistency typical?

Would anyone mind sharing the dose that your child is on? Colin was

prescribed 1.25 ml three times a day (2mg/5ml) and it just seems

like so little. He weighs apprx. 29-30lbs. I have been giving it

only twice a day and we aren't up to the full dose yet.

Thanks,

Colin (RSS) & Hayden - 12/6/00

Alyssa has been on the Periactin for about 6 months now. We too notice some

variations in appetite. She was on 2ml twice a day, now after her surgery she

is on 1.5mls twice a day. She is off of her pump for 6 hours a day for meals

(2hrs for each meal) and her appetite is just getting worse. I can hardly get

her to eat anything. I'm sure it's because she's always full, but I am starting

to get worried that all our hardwork prior to the surgery to get her to eat is

going down the tube (ha ha).

We, too, had the inconsitent eating with Periactin. I think it is

more due to the delayed emptying than anything else. If Colin's

stomach is still digesting breakfast, he may not be really hungry

for lunch. Actually, your best bet is to go for smaller, more

frequent meals. This way his stomach does not get as much food at

once and has a chance to empty itself. I'm now an expert on that

one. Max eats four or five smaller meals a day now. Despite the

vomiting I told you in the last post, overall, he is eating well and

not gaining. (We don't want him to gain too much - just hold steady

for his height now - almost 5'!!!!)
