Hi ,

My son Maxi, who is 4 just went through the teeth thing. He would

never take a bottle at night, and his teeth were tiny and his jaw is

tiny. He actually had a cavity near the base of the front bottom

tooth. As a matter of fact many of his cavity would ip going below

the gum line. No dentist wanted to work on him. They were afraid of

novacaine and other numbing agents because of the size of his jaw

and airway. We finally found and one got insurance to cover

the " dental work and anesthesia " . Anyway, Maxi had i.v. sedation and

six teeth fixed and sealants over everything. Because these were

baby teeth, insurance didn't want to cover the sealants. But with a

letter of explnation about short stature and the fact that he could

have these teeth until he was ten, they finally relented. It took

two months to find a dentist and another two months to get

everything pre-approved. But it did happen. Surgery went over very

well, the biggest problem, the anesthesia, caused some nausea and

put him off his eating. The I.V. was a nessecity for Maxi, he

couldn't eat for the four hours before the anesthesia and we needed

to regulate the blood sugar. Maxi eats faithfully every four hours

around the clock. He has to. So the i.v was nessecary. It was also

neccesary that they understand that RSS and some short stature kids

have metabolism and blood sugar irregularities and treat that

accordingly. That usually means an I.v., like I said, because of a

small jaw and high palate, novacaine wasn't a good option. But

everything went fine, and his choppers look GREAT!

Hugs,

AmyMarie
