Question on Periactin, & other stuff

Everyone - I realize that many of you are not members of MAGIC. But

again, PLEASE I encourage you to become members. A lot of the

questions asked are already answered in depth through medical

documents at MAGIC. Many RSS parents have spent a lot of time and

money fundraising so that we can create and produce good medical and

practical information on RSS.

FYI - to the person that asked about what is Periactin, complete

information on what is periactin and why it works is a library

article written by Dr. Harbison, and is in the MAGIC library.

Membership at MAGIC is only $30 a year. This is the ONLY nonprofit

organization for RSS -- the only way we can continue to investigate

and create documents whose information we post here is by having

members. That is how Jodi, Katy and I are able to write the answers

we do post here. (We are the volunteers through MAGIC for the RSS

division, along with the assistance of many others here on the

listserve & elsewhere). $30 a year may sound like a lot at one

shot -- but think of forfeiting 7 Starbuck coffees, etc.....

If anyone can not afford the $30 per year, call MAGIC anyway. Other

members have donated extra so that a free membership can be provided

for those in need. Remember, that $30 covers not only the library,

but the newsletter, covers the zillion phone calls that Katy and I

make to so many families, even helps with the financial aid

offerings. For example, if you are a member, and your spouse loses

his or her job, and suddenly you can't afford the massive COBRA, you

can apply to MAGIC for financial assistance.

But most importantly, your membership allows Katy, and I, and Jodi,

to continue the work that we do for all of you. If everyone belongs

to the listserve but doesn't join MAGIC, we are blown. Years ago,

the listserve was purposely NOT a part of a MAGIC membership so we

wouldn't have to deal with legal issues. But everytime I see that

there are 450 members on the listserve, and 280 in our RSS division

of MAGIC, it breaks my heart.

Remember, when I am trying to get funding from various foundations

and pharmaceutical companies to pay for things like convention

scholarships, the pool party at the convention, and the upcoming RSS

Magazine, it is the " membership " numbers that they look at. WE NEED

HELP!!!!

And if you are a member and would like to pay the membership of

another listserve family, simply write a check for $30 to MAGIC and

add a note that says " for another RSS family's membership " and they

will save it for that need.

Sorry to vent -- you longtimers know that I need to get this off my

chest about twice a year.....
