Guest guest
It is an antihistamine - originally designed to treat cold and allergy symptoms. But, most doctors will tell you it is not very effective as an antihistamine. It is good for appetite stimulant though. It can make a person feel sleepy and sluggish at first, that is why it is recommended to gradually increase the dosage until the full dosage is reached. From all of the research I have done, it seems to be a safe drug. jennifer F -- In RSS-Support , " kittykia2002 " wrote: > Lacob is not taking this medication now, but i will talk to his doc. > about it. i see many of the kids with rss are on it. the talk how > well it helps with their weight gain. do you all know a great deal > about the drug? Guest guest
Hi Sheryl We tried Liam on periactin, when he was younger(probably 12- 18 months)and had the same effect. There was a very small window between giving it and him going to sleep. Now Liam is 3, I often think of giving it another try, but we are going to wait and see what Dr H and Dr Stanhope say about it at the convention. Good luck Jody(mum to Liam 3y/o 9.8kg 80cm RSS and Cameron nearly 6 not RSS) > Until I can get a copy of the article on Periactin from Magic, can > anyone tell me its success rate in infants....also, does anyone know > how long it take to work? > > My 7 mo. old was just given a prescription for it and I tried it for > the first time today...she seemed extra tired all day and not hungry > at all. > > Thanks, > Sheryl (mom to Dalia - possible RSS)
Guest guest
Sheryl -- According to my notes like Jodi said, Dr. Harbison has not recommended it for infants under one year of age. Your pediatrician felt that it was OK??? Jodi's notes on the starting of periactin are exactly what MAGIC recommends. Many parents have done it the " old way " (whole dose right off the bat, in the morning) and the other way via Dr. H and MAGIC -- and far more successful by starting with only 50% at night. > Sheryl, > > Did you give her the whole dose the first time?
