I place my pads spread out across my stomach. I prefer the pulse mode and

had to adjust the bandwidth a bit to get mine to work. With the pain

radiating into the back, when I attached a pad to where the pain was, it

made that pain worse. The panc pain though it helps quite a bit

I hope this finds you and yours well

Jerry,

See earlier note in your mailbox, please. As for the tens unit, I

attach mine in two locations on my back. One tab is placed at

the bottom of my left shoulder blade, the other down a little and

just to the left of my spine. There's a nerve bundle back along

the spine, just behind your pancreas that, if found, seems to be

the spot to locate at least one of the tabs. I set my speed on a

medium to heavy, slow pulsating speed. Once I get back to SC

on Wednesday I can send you a drawing, if you like, of where

these locations are.

You may have to play around with the locations a bit to see

where it works best for you. I was told to never place any of the

tabs on the abdomen, that they were supposed to go on the back

where the nerve bundle was.

I hope this helps.

With hope and prayers,

  • 1 month later...

Inga,

I am wearing the TENS unit as I type. My foot is so sore this

evening and I just could not take it anymore!

I purchased mine at a surgical supply store. I don't know if you

need a prescription or not, but I did have one that the pain

management center gave me. It IS recommended for back pain, or any

other chronic pain. The only question is whether or not the unit I

have would be strong enough for someone's back. Mine is powered by

a 9 volt battery. The current is pretty strong, though, and the

battery has lasted over a month. I'm sure if you mention this to

your friend, he/she can ask the doctor and get the scrip if it is

needed. It's so nice to be able to put myself out of pain without

being drugged! (Although sometimes I do need pain meds

for " breakthrough " pain.)

The same TENS unit should be suitable for back pain. The only

difference is the settings might need to be changed. If you are using

it for long term use you are much better off using a rechargeable

battery.
