Guest guest
Yesterday Colin had his gastric emptying study done. It was an incredibly long day for him (and me) but it is over and now we wait for his GI doctor to talk with Dr. H about the results which could take a week. We arrived at the hospital at 7:30am and he was put on an IV. We had to hang out for 7 hours until the test at 2:30. The test was almost 2 hours long and Colin had to lie completely still. Fortunately he fell asleep for about an hour, but the last 30 min. was really rough. I'll let you know how it goes. His twin sister was so excited to see him last night that she slept in the same crib with him for the first time since they were infants! Colin (RSS, g-tube) and Hayden - almost 35 mo. Guest guest
, Why would the results take about a week? Whenever Max has the GET, we get the results almost as soon as the test is over. At least the unofficial results. Maybe your GI could put a call in and get an estimated time? That would let you know at least if he is delayed. The official time does not really matter because the unofficial is usually pretty close. Then you would know and be able to have some idea of what comes next. Guest guest
The GI doc has the results but wanted to go over it with Dr. H before we talk to get her thoughts. So I think that is why he said it would be a few days. > , > > Why would the results take about a week? Whenever Max has the GET, > we get the results almost as soon as the test is over. Guest guest
I can't believe you went through all that!!!! Why did they put an IV in? Then again, if you had to wait 7 hours, without him eating, I guess it made sense. Yikes!!! I will never complain about Dr. H and her GET again! and I arrived at 9:00am. We had to wait an hour because the admin people were late and certain paperwork wasn't ready. Finally I WALKED to the next building where DR. H's office was and stood there for the proper paperwork, and then walked it back myself. HA! Personal courier service. was in by 10:00am for her GET. And we were out just under 2 hours later. being 7 years old could understand far better than Colin why she had to stay still, though. And I brought the Bynes movie -- although I will say she was begging for food the last half hour. Did they say why they made you wait 7 friggin hours??? Guest guest
That was Dr. H's protocol that she sent our doctor. Colin had to fast for 6 hours with an IV before the procedure. We got bumped back an hour due to an emergency trauma, but otherwise it was because Dr. H had instructed! So I have no idea why 's was different. :-) > > Yesterday Colin had his gastric emptying study done. Guest guest
That is surprising. is scheduled for 11/25 for his and my understanding is that he is to fast for 4 hours (which is the longest that Dr H wants him to go without eating). It works perfectly for us. His pump usually goes off at 6:30 and we are scheduled for 11 am. Guest guest
Here are the directions from Dr. H's email to us: NPO for 6 hrs prior to testing with an IV infusion of D10W+ appropriate lytes running at maintenance. I have no idea why it would be different? > That is surprising. is scheduled for 11/25 for his and my > understanding is that he is to fast for 4 hours (which is the longest > that Dr H wants him to go without eating). Guest guest
, Max, too, had to fast for six hours before the GET. We were lucky, however, because he was the first appointment of the day, so there was no waiting or delay. I think that Dr. H. wanted the IV just in case Colin had a late day appointment and there was a possibility of his having difficulty with BSLs. Remember, you were not doing it in NYC, under HER care. You had it done where you live and she does not trust anyone she has not trained and watched over and programmed herself. Even then, she is leery and gives the orders. I think she just wanted to keep Colin safe and not run into any difficulty. In other words, she was covering her you-know-what. Jodi
