He becomes grumpy quite easily. I don't know if there are any drug interactions. Also, we've thought of trying him on Concerta. Any feedback, experience, knowledge would be appreciated. Guest guest
there are biomedical ways to approach ADD. Diet alterations are important, Essential Fatty Acids, and other things to help brain function. Is it only attention that is the problem? I think DMAE is good for that. Do you think he needs medication or is this more of a school thing? I only ask because so many schools are playing doctor now days. They did this with my friends son who is severely ADHD and delayed. They kept requesting more medication. She said no. They complained more. Finally, she took him out and home schools him. He is not on any medication now. So in some cases there may be reasons they are having problems with him focusing. Does he have any therapies in place? Kids with and without autism can be very sensitive to sounds, smells, lights, everything. This is very distracting and they cannot tune it out sometimes. Is the material being taught, too boring, too easy...too hard? Is it visual, or all talk. Is he in a large class? Does he sit in the back or off to the side? It may help him to sit up front, center, of the room. Kids learn in different ways. And there are many reasons for attention problems. One being metal poisoning. If you have not already done so, I would see about going into school one day and observe from the side line or out of sight if possible to see how he is reacting, and to what things. If you cannot physically do this, see if school is willing to let you video tape the day to see where your son is having problems. Maybe this can be treated in multiple ways. Don't despare, my son is also hyper, but we are seeing this slowly improve. If Adderall is making those symptoms it is not a good idea to contiue it. These are adverse effects. It is making him aggitated. I can't recomend concerta, as we only use natural treatment methods. I do know people who have used it and seem to prefer it as having less side effects. I hope some of this information is helpful and can find some answers for your son. Best wishes. -- In , " deanak224 " <deanak224@...> wrote: > > My apologies to all if this is an oft asked question, I an wondering > about your experiences with chelation and ADHD medications. but my 7 YO > autistic son has been stuggling with attention and his grades have been > suffering. Guest guest
Have you read the ADD/ADHD diet book? You can get it at Whole Foods and on Amazon. It is a pink book and has a lot of great info in it. I am ADD and what helps me is to really watch my carbs/sugars, no fenol enzymes and some caffeine. I can see where other supplements would be most helpful. Avoiding overly processed foods is important, especially food colorings and preservatives. Guest guest
If you haven't tried carnaware, I would try it first. It will help her apraxia, attention and processing. For attention and apraxia, I'd try 800 mg/day. The study I read about processing issues led me to believe that higher doses were used, but I need to read more. > > Hi > I have a 7yrold daughter with apraxia, processing issues and some learning disabilities. Guest guest
...I don't remember getting an answer to this but maybe because I should already know but I don't.....Is Carnosine and Zinc taken together as good as taking Carnaware? Guest guest
My Cody was dx w/ severe apraxia, motor planning & hyperactivity w/ impulsivity. I, personally, am afraid of adhd meds. I'm currently using Focus Factor for Kids, Fish Oil, & pediatrician, therapists, teachers (and dad, biggest skeptic), are all seeing HUGE improvements (I didn't tell teachers/therapists about supplements). kristen iannone <KIANNONE@...> wrote: Hi I have a 7yrold daughter with apraxia, processing issues and some learning disabilities. Guest guest
My girlfriends daughter is on Focalin. She is also on Tenex to counter the side effects. It's another Ritalin but lasts longer. maryebe <eberlein@...> wrote: If you haven't tried carnaware, I would try it first. It will help her apraxia, attention and processing. Guest guest
Thanks for the advice, it is nice to hear from others that have tried it.. Guest guest
, I am an SLP at a high school and one of my students was put on the Foclin for his ADHD. He started to regress and become depressed. It got really bad and his parents took him off it. That is all I have heard about it. So I am not sure how it would affect someone younger. I hope this helps. Mia > > Hi > I have a 7yrold daughter with apraxia, processing issues and some learning disabilities.
