Overfeeding my baby????

Am I overfeeding my baby? The EI people and the geneticist (Fairfax)

seem to think so. He weighs 16p 4o yesterday at the geneticist

office and is 26.25 inches long. She asked what i feed him, now

Bradley is a picky eater (he will eat anything), but he doesnt like

certain textures in his mouth. Everything i feed him, i add about

6TBS of oatmeal or rice cereal, becasue he does not like thin foods,

he will spit those all over me if I try to feed him that type of

stuff, so I make it thicker, they seemed to think I was adding too

many calories to his 2 solid meals a day by doing that. They told me

to try to stop and see what happens, he keeps spitting it at me.

Could he have an aversion to that type of food? or just prefer the

thicker thing so he can gum them to death, BTW he is now eating

arrowroot cookies at dinner along with the apple wheels that come in

the can. He started into this world at 3p 15o and 16 1/2 inches.

Weight seems to be good, but the geneticist pointed out yesterday he

is at between 50-65% on the h/w charts. but he seems to be VERY

happy and content. so what do i do, he wont eat unless i thincken

it, but am i going to damage him in the long run??

Hi Paige:-)

Does he drink well? I would probably give him more to drink and less to eat

if you need to continue thickening food and at the same time work on that

oral aversion. I would give him a caloric drink before he ate so he still

gets the full feeling. My two cents anyway.

Good luck

LOL, his first Gi appointment today, the Gi said to keep thickening

his solids..lol....he said it is probable what is helping his

reflux..plus he upped the zantac dosage to 3 times a day instead of

2.

LOL..I have tried everything, i give him the GERBER yogurt juice and

he absolutely loves it, that is probably why he only eats 2 times a

day instead of 3....but the GI said if he likes the thicker food go

for it, but give him less. Thanks. it is almost like the GI was

reading this post before I saw him today...

Hi Paige

Could you try a little less cereal? And just keep reducing the cereal a

little each time? Maybe he's having problems with tongue control, and needs

it thickened to keep it in his mouth.

Just an idea.

You know what i want to apoligige to you i think u misread my

post...i meant the height for weight chart. i had to go back an re-

read that again. I think it was a little confusing, but he is at the

>3%-0% on the actual height for age chart and in the <15%-25% on the

weight for age chart, but the height for weight chart he is in the

>50-65%. Just wanted to clarify in case of a misunderstanding. Sorry

for the confusion

Paige,

If he is in the 50% in height for weight, then don't let him gain

anymore weight for a bit. This means he weighs just what he should

for his height. If you go over that, he will be a heavier baby and

dr. H. would definitely tell you to slow down.

As he grows, he will go down in the height for weight/weight for

height and then you will not have any potential problem.

Jodi

DO NOT let him lose weight, though. Just keep his weight stable.
