I have been there with the Periactin argument. Stanhope stuck to the

medical line (factually correct) that there is no clear evidence, based on

representative studies, that Periactin works. Hence, it cannot be

prescribed as an appetite stimulant. When I pressed him for his personal

view, he repeated the same lines. We have to understand his predicament. He

must, when being questioned in a professional capacity, tell the absolute

factual truth. I did get the impression that he knew exactly what I meant

though. You can get Cyproheptadine (or whatever the generic drug is) from

Boots, although normally on order only. They didn't ask me any questions,

although I suspect you'd just need to say " Yeah, he's had it before, it's

for an allergy " . I tried it a few times with (now 7), and he had

really bad mood swings. Trouble is, it's tablet form, and I had to crush

them between two spoons, and then try to give him one-third. Can you

imagine - exactly one-third of a badly-crushed small tablet, less what's

fallen on the floor, stuck to the spoon, in big lumps.....I never stuck it

through the five-ten days to get over it, so I can't comment on the long

term. He did eat better for a couple of days though. has had only GHT

since 4 yrs, nothing else, and he remained same weight for 3 years. This

last year he's been eating like a horse. So it will probably happen

eventually. We tried high-fat diet, but he just threw-up everytime. Write

me at " mahtani_andrew@... " direct if you wish, or call me at work

on 01733 583168. Happy to help / listen anytime. I am english, but I'm

rushing this email, so it's probably not making much sense! We live in

Lincolnshire.
