Bradley has been working on his sitting skills and has been doing

really well. Not tipping over as much and such. Well, until tonight.

He fell over from a sitting position onto his teeting/rattle/keyring

thingy. His mouth started to bleed. I was scared and everyone is

making it sound liek he is fine. I called the dr and the nurse

called back and said he is fine to just kep and eye on him, but i

was worried because with his drool he seemed like he was bleeding a

lot. oh well, he seems fine now and he went to bed, ill check on him

every 30 min or so just to make sure though. Has ayone else had this

experience??

Paige,

My son Christian is about to turn 3 in 2 weeks. We have had three

falls onto his teeth. The first time he fell at a restaurant and hit his mouth

on metal table legs. This last time he fell and smacked his mouth off the

coffee table. On both accounts I took him to the ER. The ER doctor explained

to

me that the mouth is very vascular (contains a lot of veins) and so even the

slightest cut will bleed like the Hoosier Dam. I was concerned for his teeth

b/c this last time (end of August) his gums swelled really bad immediately

after. I couldn't tell if his gums were swollen or his front teeth had been

knocked up. So it was just a precaution. I know this is a little late in a

reply

but as you can tell this has happened to us a few times and I know how it

feels. The ER dr. told me that I could/should have him followed-up with an ped

orthodontist. I noticed that the next day he had already started to improve

drastically. The gums were pretty bruised, but the swelling had gone down.

After 48 hours even the bruising had subsided considerably. So, put your mind

at

ease. The blood is scary, but it makes it look worse than it actually is.

Anyway, I hope this helps.

and Periactin)

Sending hugs to you!!!

That is an awful experience. Both of my kids (one RSS and one not) have

fallen and had items in their mouths. One thing to remember, there is not a

lot of skin around the mouth (like the head) so the blood vessels etc. are

closer to the surface and there is always more bleeding (or it looks like

more) than the seriousness of the fall. It is so freaky, scares the living

daylights out of you. My daughter (non RSS) rammed a straw into the back of

her throat (fell with it in her mouth)--she's my first baby----I was beyond

frantic! I'll never forget it. I can't tell you how many times Adam's teeth

have cut his mouth open in a fall. It's one of those rights of parenthood

that we'd all like to give up!! (kind of like baby's first fall off a bed or

change table or whatever....when you finally realize " wow they can move!!!! "

UGH!!!)

You take care of yourself, what a scary experience.
