Guest guest
Hi Jodi:-) Sorry is ill. You do want to keep his fever down. With his restricted pulmonary issue, a fever will make him breath even faster putting more strain on his heart and it will make it more likely he will aspirate if his breathing goes up any. Alternate the Motrin and Tylenol and monitor him closely watch for a temp that does not go down with medicine or a tepid bath and keep a watch out for retraction with . Watch for the grunting that can happen when he can not get enough oxygen. He will loose more fluid with a fever and if I remember right you have reduced his feeds during this ear infection. Please watch him for dehydration. If he starts to act leathergetic and is getting limp I would take him right to the ER. I would also take him to the ER if he started grunting. I am glad to hear he is up and around so I think he will probably be fine but the above info is for if things change in the night. > > Reply-To: RSS-Support > Date: Fri, 17 Oct 2003 01:53:23 -0000 > To: RSS-Support > Subject: has a fever > > I need some advice. Guest guest
Jodi R. Just having gone through Adam having a fever of 107 in June, I hear you!!! I'm not a doctor but just another mom sitting here on a late Thursday night thinking you might need someone to " hear " you. For Adam (RSS) and my daughter (not RSS) a fever at 100 is something to watch but is actually not even something that should be treated.........from what I have read. A low grade fever is helpful in fighting any infection. Now given it's late evening and he's going to bed (or is there by now) I would give the motrim as well to keep the fever in check over the night. For any child you are watching their behaviour as well. You mentioned that he is acting normal in that he's laughing and moving around. A sick child will be pretty still and lethargic with a fever that requires much concern. Also you are giving him his feeds......that will keep him hydrated. As long as he is getting fluids by whatever means you don't have to be concerned with dehydration. Even if you were not feeding him but he was drinking his bottles and/or eating popsicles.......you wouldn't have to worry about dehydration. Hopefully will have a good night's sleep and will be better in the morning. Keep an eye on him (especially about an hour before the motrim should be wearing off) to make sure the fever isn't climbing any higher. But the best thing for him is the fluids (which you are doing) and a good night's sleep. If you notice he gets lethargic tomorrow or will no longer keep any fluids down......then call your doctor. Hope that helps. Take care and rest tonight, caring for a sick child can be so draining. Debby has a fever > I need some advice. I have been checking 's temp. and it is > right around 100 degrees.
