Yesterday, had his gastic endoscopy done. It all went really

well. They did fully anesthetize him, but he came through like a

trooper. He did not even vomit. And, the really excellent news is

that he does not suffer from reflux, even silent reflux. Wow! I

feel so fortunate. So, now we are just continuing to wait to see

the dysmorphologist/geneticist in December. We have only been

waiting since April for that appointment. LOL We also have an

appointment with a Pediatric Endoncrinologist in January.

Conny,

I am curious if they did a pH probe on ? I am not sure you

can do one on a child that young, just curious.

Dear Beth,

I had read about other families discovering that their older child

had 'silent reflux'. I mentioned it to the gasto doc and I asked

about doing a 'test for reflux' and I think the ph probe is what I

was talking about. She said, 'Well, we could do that but did your

support group tell you how miserable that test is? You have to put a

tube in their nose and leave it there for 18 hours. It is no fun.

And, all it would tell us is how many times he is refluxing. We

would still have to scope him to see if there is damage so....we

might as well just go ahead and do the scope and check for damage and

reflux all at once. Besides, we would put him to sleep for that one

and so it would be much easier for him. "

So....the short answer is no, they didn't do that test. I think they

can do it on someone his age, but it is a miserable thing to do. How

would they get the child to leave the tube alone for 18 hours. I

cannot imagine.

We did a second pH probe on Tori when she was 2 years and one month. I think

the first one was like a year before that so she would of been under 18 months

and then we had a third one done Jan. 2003 but the results were not readable and

the dr. never repeated the study.

Just like if you were to NG tube feed. This is a tube that goes down the nose.

With the pH probe they place the tube down the nose and tape it to the face for

the 18 hours and you carry a little recorder with you.

Dear Maloy,

I think I am glad that so far we are not having to deal with tubes

like this. The first thing did when he acheived fully awake

status after his procedure was begin complaining and complaining

until they removed the tiny little monitor from his toe! He hated

the pulse/ox and was trying to take it off himself. I cannot imagine

what he would do with a tube in his nose. What a fight that would be!

The kid is small but he is feisty!
