Guest guest
Since I've been replying to messages already, I thought I'd quickly introduce myself! I'm new to this group! My son, , is 30 months old and currently goes to speech therapy 1 day a week for only an hour. After reading symptoms of verbal apraxia online, I'm almost positive my son has this. His speech therapist had quickly mentioned that she suspected it but apparently they don't do the diagnosis here until he is 3...not sure why?!? He just had his 6 month evaluation and they put him at having a 28% delay in his expressive language skills but is age-appropriate for receptive. He mainly uses back sounds (g, k) and we are working on strenghtening his oral facial muscles. At this point he cannot pucker his lips thus he's having difficulty producing front sounds (m, p). He currently has a vocabulary of a little over 100 words but over half are unintelligible and the other half are only understood within context. He does say a few 2-3 word sentences but you can't understand those very much either. " Again " , " I'll get it " and " I did it " all sound like " E Ga " . We recently started giving him fish oil and I'm SOOO happy to report that within a week, I noticed he's been adding 1-2 new words to his vocabulary daily!!! I've actually started a list where I write down his new word(s) each day! Though most are unintelligible, it still is a huge progress for us! Not sure if it's a coincidence or not but it does make you wonder if the fish oil had anything to do with it! I'm glad I was referred to this site and looking forward to reading all the posts!
