Guest guest
Hi all! Just wanted to let those who have Aetna know how we got therapy approved. Since Aetna has an exclusion against Verbal Apraxia and refuses speech therapy to anyone unless they have had speech and lost it, they told me there must be a disease or illness that caused the lack of speech. After talking with our therapist, she asked for my son's medical records and went through his medical history and based on his illnesses was able to meet the criteria for therapy. Also, because of the exclusion, we are keeping Apraxia out of his therapy notes and files. I sure hope Aetna doesn't look at his neurologist's notes!! The bad thing is we will have to go through this every 13 sessions. I guess once we have exhausted benefits this route we will have to appeal for coverage with my husband's company since they are self insured. I hope this might help someone...it really is uplifting and you seem to get a glimmer of light through what seems to be a disorder that no one recogizes from time to time.
