Guest guest
Thanks Amelia, that makes sense. Does anyone know if raised blood sugar levels biochemically stimulates the feeling of hunger? Mara > Mara, > > I just did some reading on the subject. Apparently the reason that steroids contribute to yeast problems is that it raises the blood sugar levels so more sugar is available for the yeast to munch on. I don't have a citation or anything, but that was the explanation I read. > > Amelia > Husband UC 9 years, SCD 18 months > LDN 3mg > > >> >>> - what was that test called - i get stool tests but not for what bacteria are there - just for what yeast etc are there >> >> What is the yeast test called? >> >> Also, what SCD legal OTC supplement did you use to fight yeast? >> >> Also, does anyone know if steroid use can kick up yeast? >> >> Mara >> > > > > > ------------------------------------ > >
Guest guest
yes.. symptoms of high blood sugar levels are thrist, hunger, excessive urination, fatigue and sometimes confusion, nausea, nervousness or blurred vision. My son was on high dose steroids for 18 months during his leukemia treatments, lots of the cancer kids have to take insulin shots because their bodies couldn't handle the high blood sugar levels caused by the steroids. ..· ´¨¨)) -:¦:-¸.·´ .·´¨¨))((¸¸.·´ ..·´ -:¦:--:¦:- ((¸¸.·´*
Guest guest
I know that it does make you very hungry as I have type 1 diabetes and right before I was diagnosed I was famished ALL the time. Eating a lot AND losing weight. Thanks Amelia, that makes sense. Does anyone know if raised blood sugar levels biochemically stimulates the feeling of hunger? Guest guest
Thanks , that would certainly explain the constant obsession with feelings of hunger. On a separate issue, does anyone know why coffee is not permitted on ananti-yeast diet. Also, which OTC supplements are recommended on SCD for yeast issues. Guest guest
Mara, In a person who makes insulin, or is not resistant to it ( a non diabetic), raised blood sugar would trigger a large insulin response. The sugar would get stored in cells, and then it would drop. The quick drop in blood sugar would stimulate hunger, and weight gain. In someone with no or less insulin, the high sugar would not be stored in the cells and would be sicker with symptoms of diabetes. This is why, if someone were to eat a candy bar (NOT SCD LEGAL- just a hypothetical statement), they may get very hungry later after the insulin response. If they were to eat a slowly digested meal, they would not get as hungry later, because blood sugar would not rise as quickly. Steroids do a number on blood sugar and metabolism, and the effect on insulin is what stimulates hunger. Guest guest
The feelings of hunger in diabetics is that the high sugar can not get into the cells- and they are starving. In a non diabetic, the sugar is rushing into the cells very quickly from lots of insulin. The thirst is from the sugar being eliminated in the urine and the body losing water with it. I don't know why coffee is in an anti yeast diet, but it is a stimulant, and it stimulates insulin. Guest guest
Mara, I too am wondering just how to do it myself. I suspect I have a problem (after doing all sorts of research for DH!). I do know that s. boulardii and acidophilus are supposed to help. I have seen suggestions regarding rotating 4 oz shots of fresh carrot juice mixed with 1 clove of garlic, with coconut oil (3 TBSP a day?), and also oil of oregano (don't know the dosing on this one). Apparently, using the above rotation helps keep the yeast from becoming resistant. One is also to take a short break (maybe a few days only?) so that the spores will 'hatch' and then be destroyed. I think they are immune to the remedies while in spore form. Sorry if I haven't answered your question, this is all that I know/have read. I am just now trying the s. boulardii and acidophilus. I am taking 1 cap 2x day of the s. boulardii and 1 cap of the acidophilus but I am also eating 3/4 cup of yogurt too. It is too soon to know the effect yet, though.
