I have been pricking the capsules open and squirting them in my 2 year olds mouth. It takes everything in him not to vomit. I give him one before breakfast and then one before his snack. My 6 year old is tube fed - so I just administer it with some water into his tube. Any suggestions would be great. and the ZooCrew
Guest guest
When I first starting giving the ProEFA to my 2 yr old, he wouldn't take it mixed in applesauce or other foods, which is what most people do. I started mixing it with his liquid multi-vitamins (Natrol Complete for Kids) and giving it to him with a medicine dropper. He didn't love it at first, but he would take it. He just knows that he has to take medicine, I guess. After a while, he got used to it and now he even seems to like it. When I tell him it's time to take his vitamins, he runs over to me and opens his mouth! I've had even better results when I mix the oils with POM juice, which is strongly flavored. I've heard some people squirt it in a little 7 up as a special drink treat (the oil is lemon flavored after all) so you might try that. Mine hates carbonation but some kids love soda and if you don't let them have it very often, it might be a real selling point. > > I am sure you all are getting bored with answering these questions a thousand times over. Guest guest
I prick the capsules and put them in vanilla pudding, custard or applesauce. She loves it! Guest guest
Same here. will, surprisingly, accept this. As one poster suggested, we add a Kool Aid " slurry " to the mixture to flavor it. I give 3 capsules (2 ProEFA and 1 EPA) plus 1/4 teaspoon of Kool Aid mixed with 1/4 teaspoon water in a syringe and she takes it, no problem. This is shocking to me. As I upped her dose, it got to be too much to keep track of it all mixed into her juice or food. This is much more efficient :-) Warm regards, ****************** (Rochester, NY) Mom to , 3.3 years, Verbal Apraxia & , 1.1 years (and babbling away!) ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of debjward Sent: Saturday, September 02, 2006 8:57 AM Subject: [ ] Re: ProEFA I squeeze the oil into a child's medicine syringe that is very skinny (some are too fat and make my child gag just to put it into his mouth). This Safety First Syringe holds 3 1000mg capsules. My child is a resistent eater and it took about 5 mos to get him to take it without vomiting. I squeeze the oil into the back of his cheek and hold a Viva paper towel (very sift paper towels like those tissues with lotion in them) to his lips so if any comes out I can catch the spill. > > I am sure you all are getting bored with answering these questions a thousand times over. Guest guest
You can start with 1 ProEFA per day if you like. Then you can increase it to 2 ProEFA per day. The next increase would be to add 1 ProEPA per day to the other two. This is pretty much the standard if you search back in the archives. This is what we did, and we personally made the increases each time after about a month. Others have their own timeframes. Our little guy was 2 at the time. Age and weight do not matter here. Some people start with 2 ProEFA and 1 ProEPA per day right from the start. Now, at 2 1/2, we are still using the fish oils, and of course Vit E, and we have seen wonderful progress all long--no dramatic surges for us--but great progress, and we are thrilled. You can check the archives if you want more information. And I know lots of people will respond to your question. Good luck, surely very good things will happen for you. Suzanne [ ] ProEFA I have a son who just turned two. We are suspecting that he has apraxia. I just ordered ProEFA to see if that will help his speech. What dose is recommended for a two year old? <!-- #ygrp-mlmsg {font-size:13px;font-family:arial,helvetica,clean,sans-serif;} #ygrp-mlmsg table {font-size:inherit;font:100%;} #ygrp-mlmsg select, input, textarea {font:99% arial,helvetica,clean,sans-serif;} #ygrp-mlmsg pre, code {font:115% monospace;} #ygrp-mlmsg * {line-height:1.22em;} #ygrp-text{ font-family:Georgia; } #ygrp-text p{ margin:0 0 1em 0; } #ygrp-tpmsgs{ font-family:Arial; clear:both; } #ygrp-vitnav{ padding-top:10px; font-family:Verdana; font-size:77%; margin:0; } #ygrp-vitnav a{ padding:0 1px; } #ygrp-actbar{ clear:both; margin:25px 0; white-space:nowrap; color:#666; text-align:right; } #ygrp-actbar .left{ float:left; white-space:nowrap; } ..bld{font-weight:bold;} #ygrp-grft{ font-family:Verdana; font-size:77%; padding:15px 0; } #ygrp-ft{ font-family:verdana; font-size:77%; border-top:1px solid #666; padding:5px 0; } #ygrp-mlmsg #logo{ padding-bottom:10px; } #ygrp-vital{ background-color:#e0ecee; margin-bottom:20px; padding:2px 0 8px 8px; } #ygrp-vital #vithd{ font-size:77%; font-family:Verdana; font-weight:bold; color:#333; text-transform:uppercase; } #ygrp-vital ul{ padding:0; margin:2px 0; } #ygrp-vital ul li{ list-style-type:none; clear:both; border:1px solid #e0ecee; } #ygrp-vital ul li .ct{ font-weight:bold; color:#ff7900; float:right; width:2em; text-align:right; padding-right:.5em; } #ygrp-vital ul li .cat{ font-weight:bold; } #ygrp-vital a { text-decoration:none; } #ygrp-vital a:hover{ text-decoration:underline; } #ygrp-sponsor #hd{ color:#999; font-size:77%; } #ygrp-sponsor #ov{ padding:6px 13px; background-color:#e0ecee; margin-bottom:20px; } #ygrp-sponsor #ov ul{ padding:0 0 0 8px; margin:0; } #ygrp-sponsor #ov li{ list-style-type:square; padding:6px 0; font-size:77%; } #ygrp-sponsor #ov li a{ text-decoration:none; font-size:130%; } #ygrp-sponsor #nc { background-color:#eee; margin-bottom:20px; padding:0 8px; } #ygrp-sponsor .ad{ padding:8px 0; } #ygrp-sponsor .ad #hd1{ font-family:Arial; font-weight:bold; color:#628c2a; font-size:100%; line-height:122%; } #ygrp-sponsor .ad a{ text-decoration:none; } #ygrp-sponsor .ad a:hover{ text-decoration:underline; } #ygrp-sponsor .ad p{ margin:0; } o {font-size:0;} ..MsoNormal { margin:0 0 0 0; } #ygrp-text tt{ font-size:120%; } blockquote{margin:0 0 0 4px;} ..replbq {margin:4;} --> ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Any questions? Guest guest
I've been giving my son who is 27 months ProEfa now for 1 week. We havn't really seen any results yet. I'm patient an will keep forcing him to take it based on what I read but I'm concerned about the side effects. Everything I've read indicates that there are no know side effects. After the week of taking he suddenly got diahria. He's never had any stomach issues in his entire life. Is this just a coincidence or has someone else experienced this as a side effect? Thanks, Jenn
