Guest guest
hi all! I spoke to tonight and she was very disheartened. She is in pain, and very groggy. Dr. Gagner visited her today for a couple of minutes and told her that he had to remove part of her colon, but she was unaware of the exact reason...I think she was too upset and loopy form meds. She is totally questioning her decision to have the surgery and is in desperate need of support. She asked me to post on this list to ask if anyone else had developed hernias after surgery, how they handled them and what their story was . I'll get back to you if I hear anything else from her. I dont have her number handy, but she is in mt sinai, the new pavillion, rm 208...her name is karen kalstein. thanks for suppoting her and others like us all on this list denise in ny _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
Guest guest
I'm sorry 's not feeling well. Luckily, she went in and Dr Gagner found the problem. As for others having hernia surgery within this timeframe, I'm not sure, but then no two people are the same either. It sounds like a lot of 's issues are still stemming from pain and her reaction to certain pain medications. I will be thinking of her and sending her positive healing thoughts. While I know she thought she'd be on the road to recovery now, I think it's important that she focus on getting better at the moment and trying the walking and deep breathing exercises if possible to prevent other complications. While no one wants complications, I know has seen many people on this list go through them and come out the other side. While had an infection, not a hernia, she was definitely feeling the same 'buyer's remorse' that is going through! Once she got her infection treated and *finally* went home, she felt much better! Once gets 'out of the joint' and starts losing weight and feeling healthier, that regret will slowly fade. I think it's normal sometimes for the first few days and for those with complications, obviously longer, but that doesn't mean she made the wrong decision! Let her know we are thinking of her and tell her to focus on getting well, going home, losing weight and being healthy! *hugs* ANita > > hi all! I spoke to tonight and she was very disheartened. Guest guest
It sounds like a lot of 's issues are still stemming from pain and her reaction to certain pain medications. I was finally able to speak to early this afternoon. Her surgery for the hernia was opened so the healing will be a lot more time consuming. In fact, the doctor told her today she needed to be out of work for at least 8 weeks which might put her job in jeopardy. Yes, she is in a lot of pain and going for a CTscan at some point today. She also mentioned an 8 pound weight gain and quite frankly is not sure she would do it all over again. I am having second thoughts myself now... However, there is a good chance 12 months from now that she would do it all over again. So realize that you could have an experience like hers, but many who have had such experiences with major glitches, still are happy they had the surgery several months to a year later. Guest guest
Eileen: I was up at Mt. Sinai this afternoon but unfortunately was unable to contact . I know she is an RN, as am I. If she has job issues, possibly the NYS Nurses' Assoc. can help her. If you or she want to contact me, my home phone is 212 593-1197, cell 917 715-1082. I hope she's feeling better soon!
