-----Original Message-----From: 49252-return-34-79342505@... [mailto:49252-return-34-79342505@...] On Behalf Of Cesar E. Chavez FoundationSent: Thursday, January 05, 2006 9:00 PMez, LupeSubject: A Message from Andres Irlando

Dear Friends:

As you may know, I resigned from my position as president of the Cesar E. Chavez Foundation in September of last year. My experience with the Chavez Foundation has been very rewarding. I appreciate having had the opportunity to work for such an outstanding organization. Today I ask for your assistance in the Foundation's search for a new president. The next president will lead the Foundation in its mission of maximizing human potential to improve communities.

During my tenure as president, the Foundation grew exponentially from a start-up organization to one that now has an annual budget of $2.5 million, and offices in Los Angeles, Phoenix, and the San Joaquin Valley.

The beginning of the new year is an appropriate opportunity to reflect on the extraordinary progress the Foundation has made as an organization. After years of planning and construction, we opened in April 2004 the National Chavez Center--the nation's primary destination to experience first-hand the history and legacy of Cesar Chavez and the Farm Worker Movement--and dedicated the $3.2 million Chavez Memorial and Visitor Center. The National Chavez Center, located 30 miles east of Bakersfield, is now open to the public year-round.

In December 2004 we received an additional $2.5 million grant to fund construction of the second phase of the National Chavez Center: The Cesar E. Chavez Learning Institute. Once completed, this new facility will be the nation's first and only conference and retreat center for training community, political, labor, and business leaders to carry on Cesar's legacy of building self-sufficient, sustainable communities. Over the next few years, the National Chavez Center increasingly will become the Foundation's programmatic hub.

Our flagship program, the National Youth Leadership Initiative, continues its dramatic expansion in seven states (AZ, CA, CO, FL, IL, MI, and TX). This K-12, Chavez-inspired, service-learning curriculum and program integrates community service with academic study to enrich learning, combat academic and civic disengagement, promote an ethic of service, and expose youth to issues of character and values. Since the program's inception, more than 50,000 youth in over 500 schools in predominantly low-income communities have participated in the program. Ultimately, our goal is to empower a new generation of youth to become active citizens and community leaders by incorporating this program into schools across the nation.

In addition, Cesar Chavez Day of Service and Learning is now a holiday in eight states (AZ, CA, CO, MI, NM, TX, UT, WI) and dozens of cities and counties across our nation. The Foundation also manages the use of Cesar Chavez's intellectual property rights for such projects as the Chavez motion picture, federal postage stamp, biography, theatrical plays, and commercial uses.

Key to our success has been the support of foundations, corporations, labor unions, and community partners, and your support is more critical now than ever because there is important work still to be done as the Chavez Foundation continues to expand nationally.

The requirements and expectations of the new president are described in the job description below. This is a high-priority employment search for the Foundation. If you know anyone interested in applying for this position, please ask him/her to send a cover letter and resume to Park, President Pro Tem, at 818-265-0312 (fax) or at ppark@.... Also, please feel free to forward this message.

While I no longer serve as president, I will remain involved in the important work of the Chavez Foundation as a consultant and board member. Thank you again for your continued support and steadfast commitment this past year to the important and much-needed work of the Chavez Foundation. Together, we can--and will--realize the vast promise Cesars personal example and core values hold for individuals and communities today and into the future.

Si Se Puede,

Andres F. Irlando, Esq.
