We took zachary to an amusement park and his sister around 3pm yest.

He has been running a very low grade fever for 4 days and u can feel

hes a little warm. Hes been acting fine so we decided to take him

anyway. We were waiting in line for the train ride and bill said

zacharys teeth were chattering and his body was jerking/spasming.

Now zach may have not remembered the last time we were at this park

so i thought maybe it was nerves but it was too jerky to be nerves.

He was alert, color was good and by the time it took to go in the

line and on the train and half way through, he was back to normal.

He was a bit fatigued though. I would say the episode lasted 5

minutes. after that everything was fine .

We only did 3 rides after that, bill wanted to take him home but I

opted to let them stay a bit and was glad because it wasnt fair to

either kid. So now bill doesnt want to go to an amusement park in

our maine trip next week. I said hey if anything happens 1 . we'll

be going to boston childrens hospital first and they're all

specialized in it and 2. if we have to drive from maine to boston

its not that far. Soe he got all nervous again though and i do too.

But we can't bring him in because by the time he gets checked no one

can tell anything has happened. Any ideas on this ?

sarah mom to zach 3, ga2 alexis 5

Ps. Zachs had the jerking episodes before. Not teeth chattering

though

my son had myoclonic jerks after 6 months on prosac so we had to take him of of that. noticed they stopped when he went to sleep. have noticed them when he is sick or extremely nervous. This was before his mito theory. He also has autism.

Was explained that it was involuntary movement.

maybe he was cold if he has a fever.....

caden freezes alot, even without a fever.. it's body temperature regulation problems.

If it was not a seizure, I would guess it was because of the heat. Grace will get sick if it is even 75 F outside, for even 1/2 hour. It really makes life complicated, because we have 3 soon to be 4 other kids. Until we get a cooling vest for her it is completely impossible to plan any trips to the zoo, or even an outdoor party. Dr. Cohen has warned us to take this to heart, because overheating can cause crisis. He even made mention one of his patients who ended up in coma because she got too warm (it was low 80's that day.) Many mito kids have heat intolerance, autonomic dysfunction. Gracies symptoms (of heat intolerance) usually include turning red (or sometimes pale), clammy sweat, very crabby, shaky, and flu like symptoms. Like we all know, though, every kid is different and has different symptoms to everything. Hope this is some help to you. Another suggestion may be his sugar droped too low (Gracie gets very shaky when her sugar is too low.)

Best Wishes

,

the fact that it was relieved when he sat down made me think that

it may be blood pressure related? I cannot stand in line for more

than a couple of minutes. I have syncope and pass out. Maybe he was

feeling the affects of low BP. Makes me a little woozy, and spacey.

hot and sweaty. It can affect different people in different ways!

Once I sit odwn, I am fine. Just a thought!
