Guest guest
When I had my RNY performed three and a half years ago, I was told that the chance of a staple line disruption was between 3-5%. Well, I was in that percentage area, but docs feel it was also due to antibiotic Biaxin being too strong for my pouch. When I had my revision, the doctor transected my stomach, he did not transect the first surgery, and I was then told chances of staple line disruption with transected stomach is 1-3%. Just about everything else has gone kaflooey on me, but my staple line remains intact since I was transected seven months after my original surgery. Hope this helps. Hope I was given the correct info to pass along. Regina

Guest guest
Speaking of which I'd really like to know for those that had SLD with pain what it was like .. ie the pain, where it was localized and when I am 3.5+ yrs out and lately when NOT eating I notice sharp spasm like pains that come and go right over my incision area and radiate through my back ... I don't really know how to describe it but I'm slowly knocking one cause off from another .. and wondering now if its adhesion to the incision (scar tissue) or sld .. ruled out hernia, gallbladder, etc Lyssa

Guest guest
I had pain like a kick in the sternum area, as well as burning, very acidic feeling. Nausea after eating, water tasted metallic. Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
, What you describe is exactly what I've been feeling. I know we spoke about this before. I keep saying that it feels like someone punched me in the gut. After eating sometimes the nausea is awful... not like when food gets stuck... just nausea. I go in Friday for an endoscopy. I have had a history of ulcers before the surgery, so anything is possible at this point. Question: If you have a SLD, would you have more trouble losing weight? It will be my one year anniversary on Wednesday (wooohooo, offically a Graduate then), and I've lost only 65 pounds. Frustrated? Oh, yeah. No one seems to have any answers for me though. Not my surgeon, not my PCP....heck, not even my GYN. By the way... Happy Anniversary!!! Hmmmm, I better go to the site, I need to order some Pro Score 100, I ran out today. Thank you for everything. Also, at that time, my BMI was down to 35. Dr. Gagner had said I had a 50/50 chance for approval, and it was a question of whether they saw the benefit of correcting the problem then or waiting until I gain all my weight back. Thankfully, someone there had some forsight. in NJ

Guest guest
Tara: Stop worrying about what may happen and start to enjoy the new you. You can " what if " yourself to death and it may never happen and look at all the time you're wasting when you can be out there enjoying yourself. Don't sweat the small stuff until it happens. There are lots of people on this list who don't have transected stomachs and are and have been doing just fine. Take a deep breath and go do something fun for yourself.
