Protein Powder Question

I am new to the subject of using protein powder and just got a can of

whey protein. I was not thrilled with the taste, vanilla, but I am

trying to do this FOR ME. I crave food, carbs, between 3-7p before I

eat dinner and wnat to do a protein shake then. BUT, I find I don't

much like the taste when mixed in water. This morning, I mixed half

a scoop with my, um, coffee and it tasted great, like one of the

International Foods coffee's. My question is whether or not heating

does anything to " break down " protein and also can you add it to food

you are cooking. Any creative suggestions would be most welcome. I'm

almost 4 yrs out and can gain weight if I don't behave. Obviously I

want to lose more weight. I am excited to say I got the scales down

again FINALLY. I weighed last nite at WW and was down to 172 and two

weeks before was 176 so, I'm a happy camper. My goal for me is 165 so

I am not too far away. Of course that goal could change b/c I try to

keep my goals attainable and NOT too far down the road. I'm wearing

10/12's, M's and a few S's. I guess being 5'7 I " hide " my pounds or

as I like to say, " I wear them well " , LOL. No one believes me when I

say how much I weigh. Anyway, creative protein use ideas welcome and

feel free to email personally if you like.

Thanks for your support,

Cheryl,

I have heard that it is not good to mix most protein powders in

with hot beverages. There is one or two that can be but I don't think it

is the whey. (Don't quote me on that though.) I am not much for

vanilla. I am a chocoholic at heart. However, I have tried several

protein drinks that were made with vanilla protein powder and fruit mixed

in a blender. They are really pretty good.

I have finally hit upon a protein " recipe " that I absolutely love, and it is

kind of a combo of things I've gleaned from the group:

In blender, I dump about 8 to 10 ice cubes (the small ones the fridge

makes), then add water to almost cover the ice (about 12 oz.) then just a

splash of milk (about 2 ounces) to make it just a bit " creamy " . A big squirt

of Hershey's lite syrup (about 2 seconds worth), about a teaspoon of instant

coffee crystals, 1 1/2 scoops of vanilla protein (I use GNC's whey) and

blend it all up. It completely fills a big 32 oz cup (I save them when I go

to Taco Bell, Whataburger, etc) and I sip it with a straw every morning

after my run. It is filling, good, has caffeine, and gets me started with a

large intake of liquid (I'm bad about drinking water during the day...I

forget) and always, about half way thru the shake, I'm headed to the potty

for my morning ritual. Regular as clockwork (I know, TMI!)

Cheryl..........personally I have never met a vanilla that I like. I have a

few 2.2 tubs of different kinds. What I do with the vanilla is that I

either make a " fruit " drink out of it..meaning the vanilla, several

strawberries or blueberries, half cup of milk, half cup of water and a

packet of sweetener. This is the only way I can tolerate the vanilla......or

I " mix " it a little at a time to the chocolate. The chocolate are

relatively good.....some better than others. If you start to add a morning

or midday shake you may find that you avoid that 3-7 snake period all

together........... P.

I keep a couple of bottles of cold coffee in the fridge and make myself a " mocha

latte " every morning. 5 oz. cold coffee, 1 oz. milk, two scoops chocolate

powder - sometimes a pkg of Equal if Im craving sweets. Yumm
