hi everyone, I'm 13 months, had a distal RNY. Weight at surgery was

458. Today it is 264. Lost -194 I'm 49, female, Big boned ( I

really am! You ought to see my feet & hands! HA) 5'7 "

Doctor said my goal weight without any reconstructive surgery such

as a TT would be 215 lbs. Ya think? Still seems heavy. I'm

determined to be 199 at least! Geez!

Something else too...had a super 1 year check up, labs are okay

although I had to up the iron. Oh well. But my hip joints sure do

hurt all the blessed time. Often I can't even sleep. I've seen the

doctor many times about it, have seen an arthritis specialist too,

had oodles of x-rays from every angle. Yes I have arthritis. So do a

zillion other people. I use heat, rubs, creams, massage, soak in a

hot bath, joined a gym and do the cycle machine. No weight bearing

exercises as yet. What else can I do?

Someone said my bones are moving " BACK " into a more natural

position now that they aren't spread & supporting 458! And that

movement could very likely be some of the pain I have. I don't want

to take the medicine Celebrex anymore because I fear it is too hard

on my body now after the surgery. I fear ulcers might develop. So I

stopped the Celebrex. Now I really hurt!!! Anyone else having this

hip, joint pain?

Had my first real massage Sat. I never considered it before

because I was too embarrassed. This is tax season & I decided to go

for it! For those who have not taken the plunge yet, GO! It was so

relaxing I never wanted to leave. My knotted neck muscles were the

worst and I felt like melted butter when she finished. I'm going

again & again!

One more thing. Sometimes, not everyday, but I think about food.

The old food I used to eat. I don't miss the food so much as the

actual activity of eating. Strange. I want to get a huge big mouth

full, again & again. Sometimes I sneak a forbidden food if it's

right there & no one is looking...I'll pop it in my mouth...chew a

bit & quickly dispose of it in a big wad of paper towels, rinse with

water and go on about my business...just like I never did it. (

Friday it was a glazed donut piece) I never swallow the bad food.

It's in my mouth just a few seconds. But the very fact that I had it

because I really wanted it, somehow makes it better. I'm twisted.

For the 1st time in probably 25 years, a friend of my husbands

told my husband that he thought my weight loss was incredible, he

found he couldn't take his eyes off me because I was this entirely

NEW woman & he thought I was beautiful. My husband beamed when he

told me this had been said to him. I'm sure he hadn't heard it before!

We all know the old, " such a pretty face! " well well. good for a lady

to hear. I had extra extra water that day! HA

Everyone take care. Thanks to all of you that actually read this

long mess. So much goes on in our heads...grateful we have each other.

Hugs, Cindy n' Texas

Welcome Cindy!!! Yes, I too have the horrible hip pain. It is mostly in

the left hip.....but man is it a killer. I did everything the same as

you.....ortho doc did all the same test....mine also did a bone scan. My

pain was present before WLS. I am currently appealing the insurance for

" thighplasty " .......I got a glowing letter from the ortho doc saying he

really wants me to get the weight and skin removed from my thighs and see if

it is the " weight " pulling on them. I have a LOT of weight on the thighs

still.....and it isn't going anywhere!! It becomes real depressing

sometimes.....I too got off of the Vioxx......I am scared to death that it

is going to give me ulcers and I have enough G.I worries as it is!! I do

take them 3 or 4 days a month (period time)......or I wouldn't be able to

handle the pain!!!! Oh well....sorry this got sooo long.........again,

welcome........ P.

Cindy, Congratulations on your weight loss. Have you considered seeing a

chiropractor for the arthritis? It certainly helps mine out. I remember

when I was gaining weight, my joints and my lower back would feel it the

worst. It was as if my spine was having to readjust to the body weight.

It only makes sense that loosing the weight would do the same thing. My

chiropractor has been a Godsend and one of my biggest cheerleaders while

loosing the weight.

Lori Owen - Denton, Texas

CHF 4/14/01 479 lbs.

SRVG 7/16/01 401 lbs.

Current Weight 339.5 lbs. and loosing again

It was as if my spine was having to readjust to the body weight.

It only makes sense that loosing the weight would do the same thing.

My chiropractor hubby agrees that losing weight has made my spine do lots of

readjusting....
