Pain....

Steph, good attitude. If I can remember that there are many out there

facing the same stuff as me and being successful, I'll try harder.

Hi Joan,

I do feel wonderful! I feel like it isn't me...even though I was thin

years ago, it still amazes me when I look in the mirror to see my slimmer

face on this body. hehe. I think everyone who loses a great deal of weight

must feel that way as well.

I to am worried that I won't be able to keep it off. I know what got me

where I was, and am trying my hardest to keep away from high carb foods. It

isn't easy where as white wheat products have been my weakness. (I haven't

had a slice of any kind of bread product in a year!!!) I know I could eat

them if I wanted but I know I just can't for my own reasonings.

I do exercise regularly. I have mastered Advance TAE * BO even. hehehehe.

I do belong to a local gym too. I WILL NOT GAIN THE WEIGHT BACK!! is what

I keep telling myself. I didn't go through all this for it to come back on.

Food isn't that important to feel like I once did, to be unhealthy, to not

be able to play with my 3 children, to be ashamed to be me. I know many can

relate to those feelings and how awful they make you feel. People are cruel

but I believe we are the cruelest to ourselves. So, everyday we all fight

and it is a winning battle. We all can be what we want to be. I wasn't

unrealistic in my goals, and I did pass them which amazed me most of all! I

am very happy with what I have done in less than one year. I have become the

person I knew was trapped in all those layers and my only regret is not

doing it sooner! You will achieve your goal, you will stay fit, stay healthy

and happy with the right frame of mind. We have taken a huge step in our

lives to become happier and healthier and I know we can't or won't let

ourselves down!!

I thought maybe I was envious of someone that didn't have enough potassium,

but I guess it's not good either way. I take 6 tablets a day to try to keep

my potassium down. My kidney's can't filter it out. The doctor was

concerned right before the surgery and had it checked again. It was a

little lower, thank goodness.

My labs need to be done soon. I have been having them done every 3 months

due to a potassium deficiency which I do take medication daily for. I didn't

realize until I was lacking so bad how important potassium is to your body's

well being! And how scary it is when you are lacking it. No heart attacks

for me please! So, if anyone out there has a water pill of any kind that you

are taking for high blood pressure, make sure you are getting enough

potassium. Each time you urinate or sweat you loose it.

the main tool is metabolism v/s ... caloric intake Joan.

Its important that you embrace your absolute uniqueness here, after you hit

your goal. Exercise burns calories, yes, raises your metabolism for hours

after you've exercised, yes, making it a nice vehicle for burning calories

yes... but not as effective as... the stats on muscle accumulation that you

should

take a look at. Something like....for every lb of muscle you put on your

body, that lb of muscles will burn .... don't quote me here, ( I don't have the

stats in front of me ) .. something like 50 cals a day?? So if you put on

five lbs of muscle, you could potentially burn 250 cals extra.

Long term, as your pouch adjusts to your needs and you are able to ingest

more foods ... this will become important. I mention this, because with my

knees

being what they are, after the car accident, I am not able, will never be

able to " run " again.... and at my pace of walking I dont have the capacity to

burn that many calories, hence I walk two, sometimes three hours a day. To

counter act this ... " uniquness " ... I include a weight training work out ever

other day. A note here... muscle breaks down within 72 hours .. if you dont use

it. So like all of life .. keeping the muscle is a matter of

.......maintenance... an ongoing commitment.

Weights and cardio in combination was, is still key for me in this

commitment to keeping the weight off ...

Mandy, good info. I didn't know two of the facts....that muscle burned

calories....and that muscles break down. It must be effective though, as I

hear about so many that are combining the cardio and the weight training.

I'm going to have to think a lot more about this though, and soon. For now

I have the exercise bike, and I use the stretch bands. I gave my weights to

my daughter. Maybe I need to borrow them back. She probably doesn't use

them anyway, she runs after a 1-1/2 year old all day.....and being a size

1....and can't even imagine. I wasn't a size 1 when I was born. hahaha

Informative posts like this really help, and help to reinforce ideas in my

head, as you say " So like all of life .. keeping the muscle is a matter of

.......maintenance... an ongoing commitment. "

Mandy, this is what the Orthopedist told me. At the point of obesity, he

said they're best to get started with. It does amaze me the kind of

resistance they provide. I bought 4 strengths, so I could progress. I'm

still on the first for now. And they help my chronically sore back & neck

(which isn't getting any better sitting at the computer)......ohhhhh, what

an addiction!
