rny with gallbladder surgery

I am so grateful to everyone on this board for sharing their

experiences and information about wls. I am scheduled to have my

gallbladder out at the same time as my rny surgery and if things go

well it will be lap. I am wondering if any of you have heard of

problems having both done at the same time that would make the

surgeon have to switch over to open? I'm probably just getting last

minute jitters or something like that but I wonder if I should just

stick with the rny and not include the gallbladder if it increases

my chances of needing open.

Bridget, I've heard that having the gall bladder out at the same time is not

a problem with it being LAP. When they remove a gall bladder alone, they do

it laparscopically anyway. My surgeon said if it was diseased at all, they

would remove it during the surgery and it would still be the same procedure.

I don't know if others have more info, but I think you're o.k.

Hi Bridget.

I had Open Rny.. and my gall bladder removed.

I was told IF they could get to it.. it would be removed.

I guess it depended on the amount of fatty tissue???

Anyhow I don't miss it..

the folks i know haven't been thrilled to have 2 surgeries in less than a year,

so my vote goes to removing that gallbl.

(gallbladderless for more than decade after spending 13 months as a vegetarian).

I hear you Lori! The last thing I want is another surgery so I

guess its worth the possibility of having to switch to open if I can

get it all over with!

you're welcome, hunny! wow, your date's this monday the 22nd?! how are you

doing? w/ all your research & pre-op leg work, i'm

sure you'll do great!

i'm happy w/ lap, but there's pros & cons to both. i hear that with open, the

reconstructive surgeon uses that scar to make the most

phenomenally defined waists, that the tt's come out gorgeous.

we're a click away:-)

& for sure, have a great X-mas too!
