I am in 4th week and have developed i think some serious problems. I have not been able to eat now for 3 days. Soon as I put ANYTHING in my stomach I get sick I have thrown up I have dumped And I have had alot of pain lately around the incission area. The Pain is where all the new connections have been made. a little over a week ago I had problems with oozing from the incission. was 2 things... Serum and the start of an infection in one of the layers of tissue. They also found that the scar tissue is adhering to my ribs causing a tightness in my chest. If this doesnt improve I will need a Lap procedure to remove that scar tissue so I can breath easier and not have pain when I try to stand up straight. I have to be in the Dr's office tues If I stop being able to take in even some liquids I have to go back to the hospital immediately to be hooked back to IV fluids so that i dont dehydrate. Dr thinks maybe pouch has just about closed off to the new bowel. I will have endoscope this week and full upper and lower GI to see whats going on. I personally dont think after this procedure you are EVER out of the woods. AS a Paramedic I have taken patients with this procedure 1 year post op back to hospitals due to something getting stuck in opening or someone ate something they shouldnt have. I have taken 6 month post ops who ruptured there staple lines(internal) You Have to remember alot of new things with the new pouch. If you drank soda you could hurt it. During the 1st 6 months my Dr said its real easy to hurt your pouch by trying to force new foods to fast.Or doing something your not ready to do yet (ie: exercise, lifting) You can develop a hernia at ANYtime along incission ......Thats a weak point now..... Dont ever think that you are 100% out of the woods................ Cori
Guest guest
Cori, thanks for your view on problems after surgery. I had no idea it could extend so long. At least aware of this should make me more cautious in what & how much I eat, and what I lift. I'm so sorry you're having problems....I guess it's the bad with the good, but it must be dis-heartening to develop problems later. I wish you the best, and please let us know how it goes with the doctor on Tues. Guest guest
hi cori, thanx for the reminder. hope you get better soon & are able to eat again---how scary!! thanx for the paramedic's vantage point. i also have seen quite a bit from both early & longer term postie friends, including a bowel obstruction @ 18 months post-op, anemia, ulcers etc. i've also had a taste of reality pie. lori h. 19 grateful months post-op > In a message dated 12/13/2003 9:26:59 AM Eastern Standard Time, > Gastric_Bypass_Family writes: > I am in 4th week and have developed i think some > serious problems.
