Guest guest
It seems like a normal reaction, sadly. I guess it is the same type of thing like when someone says " I got the same jacket last week for $100 less! " Except in this case, you can't return the " jacket " , get a refund, and get the new one for less money/hassle. Regret is hard enough to live with when major organ reconstruction isn't involved. -maria > People who get it must be Real Crabby. Guest guest
FYI, there's a current RNY vs VBG vs ??? thread at obesityhelp.com. I found some strange statements there...like " The RNY " forces " us to follow some very basic rules...the very ones that our skinny friends follow automatically...eat slowly, take small bites, chew thoroughly, limit sugar and fats, and stop eating as soon as you feel full. " Hmmm...none of MY skinny friends eat like that. LOL! Anyway, so far I only saw two DSer posts. Of course, no one outwardly regrets their choice. It isn't a scientific poll, but everyone is happy. http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/question.phtml?N=w 998420312

Guest guest
Okay, I have a question and am hoping you guys can help. I had the SRVG 1.5 years ago. I can certainly spit out information on the pros and cons of this surgery, some of the vitamin supplements needed (still learning about this one though), what kind of things to look for, eating habits, etc. My sister has been checking into having wls. I am estatic. However, she wants to have the RNY. All of a sudden I feel stupid. So, my questions are: What are the pros and cons of this surgery? What kind of tests are we looking at long term (blood work)? What kind of vitamins/minerals will be required on a daily basis and in what amounts? (I don't want to start any wars but I would like to give her and myself as accurate a picture as possible.) I would like to be able to forward responses to my sister. If anyone has a problem with me forwarding information please let me know. Lori Owen - Denton, Texas CHF 4/14/01 479 lbs. SRVG 7/16/01 401 lbs. Current Weight 339.5 lbs. and loosing again Dr. Ritter/Dr. Bryce
Guest guest
My dear friend is just now embarking on the journey too and she just faxed me some 30+ pages her surgeons office gave her BEFORE her first consult -- all I can think is they are trying to inundate her with so much information that she'll throw her hands up and say never mind -- just do the deal and no way anyone has time to read -- much less understand all this chit!!! Of course none of it near accurate -- they still offer " skim milk " as a good source of protein *sigh* and Ensure, Boost and/or slim fast only with permission of their dietian. >>What kind of tests are we looking at long term (blood work)? << I think their is a list of blood work in the files section -- not all of it is needed at first but the doc can help with that -- or, rather maybe the post ops here can help with the initial blood work -- also, my own labs from my first to my 2 year are posted in the files section and those are pretty basic what we all get... need.... post RnY >>> What kind of vitamins/minerals will be required on a daily basis and in what amounts? (I don't want to start any wars but I would like to give her and myself as accurate a picture as possible.)<<< All of the Big 8 that used to be absorbed in the duodonum are the first most important -- Protein, A, B12, C D E Zinc and Iron (I think that's right) anyway... some are not needed until the lab results begin to show a trend in those areas such as additional irons... or less iron... the blood work shows those up though. >I would like to be able to forward responses to my sister. If anyone has a problem with me forwarding information please let me know. Lori Owen - Denton, Texas<< Forward to her my own personal advice with the RnY is that the surgeons are almost all very qualified to do the surgery -- not all but most will provide a good surgery for us -- don't depend on them or their office no matter how " qualified " they call themselves for post-op care / food / nutrition / look to the longer term post-ops... get involved in support so it becomes very clear what she will need to supplement and be willing to supplement for life where needed in exchange she can live a long, healthy and much thinner life. hugz, ~denise

Guest guest
A substantial number of RNY patients will also need a folate supplement.
