Guest guest
So I'm reading everyone's messages and notice that a lot of people are talkin about all these pre-op visits before their surgery. Well the only times I've been to my oral surgeon are for a consultation visit and to have some minor oral surgery to get an impacted tooth extracted...that's it. and my surgery is less than a month away. my first appointment was in february or march i think. i'm wondering if anyone else lives in indiana and possibly goes to indiana oral and maxillofacial surgery associates (IOMSA). i know my orthodontist is filling my OS in on my progress...but i would have thought that i would have had at least another couple visits with my oral surgeon. i mean my OS is great...i've had numerous people (orthodontist, dentists, others who i've talked to) tell me he's one of the best in the state. so maybe that's just how they do things. seems kinda odd though. what do you guys think? Guest guest
I only had two visits with my OS prior to surgery - the first one was the initial consultation 3 months prior and the second was about 2 days prior to surgery to check the splint. My OS had a couple of assistants (nurses I guess) who were very nice and I called them from time to time with questions. Plus, I had this web site to answer a lot of my questions. My ortho was the one who was running the show. The two offices coordinated very nicely and everything went well. Guest guest
If I hadn't had other TMJ dysfunction problems, I probably would have only seen my oral surgeon twice before surgery - the consultation and then the pre-op visit. My case was sort of backwards. It seems the ortho usually refers the patient on to the OS, but my OS did an arthroscopy on my left joint and once my bite settled, he advised me to consider surgery to correct my open bite. He sent me to the ortho, whom I obviously saw a lot with all those pre and post-op adjustments. > > So I'm reading everyone's messages and notice that a lot of people > > are talkin about all these pre-op visits before their surgery. > Well > > the only times I've been to my oral surgeon are for a consultation > > visit and to have some minor oral surgery to get an impacted tooth > > extracted...that's it. and my surgery is less than a month away. > my > > first appointment was in february or march i think. i'm wondering > if > > anyone else lives in indiana and possibly goes to indiana oral and > > maxillofacial surgery associates (IOMSA). i know my orthodontist > is > > filling my OS in on my progress...but i would have thought that i > > would have had at least another couple visits with my oral > surgeon. > > i mean my OS is great...i've had numerous people (orthodontist, > > dentists, others who i've talked to) tell me he's one of the best > in > > the state. so maybe that's just how they do things. seems kinda > odd > > though. what do you guys think? > > > > Tom
Guest guest
Well, not so odd... for me anyway. I saw my OS two years ago for a consult. Then I saw him for the first time since then one week before my surgery for my pre-op appt. I did have several people recommend him and I met someone who had the same surgery as I did. I felt very comfortable with him and had my list of questions for the pre-op visit. Everything went fine! He did see me once a week for the first eight weeks post-op, though. So, I guess I saw him more after the surgery than before! ~Cathy Any members from Indiana--surgeon question???
