Possible Gallstones...

Actually, it wouldn't surprise me a bit... we kind of have the odds against

us, eh? I fit the bill of female fat and 40, and have also lost almost 100

pounds in a year... My gallbladder was left in because it was the picture

of health before my surgery.

Started having upper right quadrant abdominal pain a few days ago, very

reminiscent of kidney stone pain. but in a different place. I figured it

was my gallbladder. Went to the walk-in clinic at my regular doc. Had

blood drawn and scheduled an ultrasound for Monday(everything ELSE including

B-12 is fabulous...). My amylase is elevated, which also points to

gallstones. I'm wondering though, if there are other post RNY reasons (like

the extra protein that we drink) that could cause elevated amylase. Odds

are I probably do have gallstones, but I am just curious.

Doc says if he was a betting man he would win this one... I'm too bust to

have my gallbladder out right now! :-)

Thanks,

Deb

Those darned GB are doomed, one way or another. They're gone if we're

heavy, gone if we diet, gone if we lose wt for any other reason,, and gone

if we're bypassed.

Wish they took 'em out with the WLS. It was n/a for me since I donated in

the dark ages when I was just a kid (23). They told me pick from the 6F's,

any 5.

Yep, I was in college when I lost mine. I had spent 6 months doing

' " Deal a Meal, " and lost probably 40 pounds, when the gallbladder

trouble set in with a vengeance. I held out until summer break so I wouldn't

miss any school, and lived on crackers and jello, then had the darned thing

out. And of course as soon as I could eat real food again, I gained back

most of the 40, but I've never been wild about jello since then.

And I had the darndest time convincing the staff at Pacific Bariatrics that

I really COULD skip the gallbladder ultrasound that everyone has to have

before their RNY surgery. PB makes it a practice to take it out if it's

mildly questionable, since they do mostly open procedures anyway, and these

poor girls in the office with their checklists were have a hard time

understanding why I just would not get that ultrasound! I finally showed 'em

the scar, and told them to ask Dr. Tanaka if I needed an ultrasound on the

gallbladder that wasn't there. He cracked up over it, and it takes a lot to

get him laughing!
