Guest guest
, Congratulations on your weight loss thus far. I can certainly relate to being shocked at my starting weight. I was 399 when I went to my preop visit before surgery. I too have a ways to go so although I have 162 lbs I still have a ways to go. I too am a proximal RNY. As for your questions, I too have had cramping in my legs at night. I am not sure exactly what causes them but waaaayyy back when I was pregnant I remember having the same type of pain and my doctor told me it was a sign of calcium deficiency. Unfortunately, although I take my multi vitamin and B-12 daily, I have not been as good at taking my calcium citrate daily like I should. I have found though that the cramping subsides when I take my calcium supplement so maybe there is a connection. I too have have salt cravings in the form of wanting crunchy salty stuff mostly at night. My labs have been great so I don't think it is a deficiency. I satisfy the cravings with protein loaded pumpkins seeds or almonds (rather than the carb loaded junk I used to eat pre-op). As for your protein intake, I supplement my protein need with whey protein shakes. Whey protein is much more absorbable for our new " plumbing " than soy protein is. Some may disagree, but I believe that every grm of protein, carb, fat and calorie counts so I don't disregard any of them as zero. Other than your hectic schedule working two jobs (who wouldn't be tired), you might find that following a regular, daily vitamin and supplement regime (incl. B-12, multi and calcium) may help to improve your stamina and energy level At 46, I have more energy now than I did ten years ago.
