Guest guest
Well, I did it! I decided this a.m. to eat something my doctor had warned me about eating this soon, scrambled eggs. He says hard-boiled are fine. Within 20 minutes I had Diarrhea, horrible abdominal cramps, and then thought I was going to vomit. I felt sick for 20-30 minutes, then freezing cold for awhile. I feel back to normal now, and am NOT touching scrambled eggs again for quite awhile. It sort-of sounded like the dumping I've heard about, but was not from sugar. It's the only thing I had to eat today, and the only drinks I had was coffee and Crystal Light, so I feel pretty sure the eggs are the culprit. Does this sound right???? Joan C, Calif. Guest guest
-Sounds like dumping to me. Most dumpers don't only experience the syndrome only on sugars. I know I don't. Fats, the mixture of certain foods eaten at the same sitting, sugars, artificial sweeteners... its all based on each individual's system. The other day I drank a protein shake... the same type and mixure I've had every morning for more than 10 months, and dumped on it. The only difference is that I had to drink it a lot faster since I was running late. I've had the drink every day since the episode and experienced no problems. I think I dumped because of the speed the drink was emptying into my intestine. Its hard to determine, at least for me, what will be the trigger to a dump. **Don't dwell on past failures, dream of future successes.** ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Toi ~ Colorado Lap RNY Medial Bypass 12/31/02 308/163/145 St. Mark's Hospital Salt Lake City, UT Dr. Simper
Guest guest
hi joan, the early pre-op time is precarious indeed. oddly enough, sometimes dumping is random & unpredictable. my surgeon told me (as an early pre-op) that coffee can cause gastritis when i complained about the crappy cramping. lori h. 19 super grateful months out > Well, I did it! Guest guest
the reason for the dumping is that we no longer have a pyloric valve which used to regulate the food leaving the stomach for us. Without it .... " we " .....have to regulate food via eating slow and in small quantities. I still dump every time I eat too fast or too much. A swift reminder to me to slow down and keep on track.
