I myself wouldn't use guess work. I would go and let them see it. It may need to be cleaned out and a packing done daily or twice daily used on it. But either way you won't know until you get in there. Infection is not a good thing no matter what kind it is. If you had a sinus infection, wouldn't you go and get some medicine from your doctor for it? Infection is something that needs to be tended to. I personally would have already gone. Let us know what happens. Guest guest
Cori, I did not have this happen to me, but I remember a discussion of something that may be similar, I looked it up on message number #29876 (pasted below), if you didn't go to ER, then keep checking your temp every hour... Message 29876 From: " cpkaye " Date: Tue Sep 30, 2003 3:10 pm Subject: Re: Post-surgery bleeding (open rny) I dealt with the leakage for several weeks after my open RNY. The explanations I got: staples on top, sutures inside the incision - a little pouch was created where the fluid built up. My surgeon's office cleaned out the fluid (happily, there was no infection) and packed a wad of thin, narrow gauze inside the pouch to absorb the leakage. All I needed was a bandaid on top... Doc demonstrated the pouch depth to me (ugh!). Also told me that this is a common occurance with open RNY. Well, never one to be " normal " , I still leaked through. Gauze pads were becoming expensive, so I resorted to cutting up my feminine pads (super thin, super long, super absorbent;-) and taping 'em over the spot. Went back to my surgeon for a followup to the packing; he cleaned it out again, but no packing this time. Placed a big 'ol bandaid on top and it closed up 2 days later... Now, my PCP went into further explanation. Being obese, we have gobs of fat floating around inside, especially around the abdominal area. When the surgeon stitches you up, then staples on top, fat gobs get trapped in-between. The clear fluid is actually the liquified fat draining! Who knew? > I had my surgery on the 17th. I got my staples out this past tuesday. On Weds > I had a little oozing from incision where Dr had cut through old hernia > repair. By thurs morning The oozing is like a dripping faucet. It is a yellowish > color with occasional blood tinge. When I touched it... Its not like a regular > liquid its kinda greasy feeling.... HAS ANYONE HAD OOZING like > this????????????
